Trivia Recap – Twisted Titles Theme (Virtual/Streaming) – Saturday, October 3, 2020

My “live-in trivia pardner” (aka Mike) and I signed on for a “twisted titles” Sporcle Live game hosted by Honolulu-based host named Remy. What was the gist? Well, all answers would have one letter swapped out for the correct letter resulting in a “funny” answer. I think we first encountered this category at a trivia tournament several years ago – these questions certainly require a bit of mental gymnastics (which is way easier than doing actual gymnastics). Oh those things those little tiny women did in the Olympics – my joints hurt just thinking about it (ugh)!

We opted to use our breakout room, even though it was just the two of us sitting on our couch. We got a little goofy with the Zoom camera

Goofing off…Aren’t our Halloween lights cool?

We didn’t do too badly on this question set, only drawing a complete blank on one of them…

The questions:

1. Bands – Scott Stapp’s band named themselves for an excessive desire for more money before they got rich with songs like “My Sacrifice” and “With Arms Wide Open.”

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb dumb!

2. Musicals – The number of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints increases dramatically in a short amount of time (no clue on this answer).

3. Video Games – A match-three style puzzle game released in 2012 in which you must create groups of Crawfords, Margolises, McCains and Williamses.

4. TV Series – Debra, Robert, Marie and Frank are among those who keep misplacing the title character.

5. 2000s Movies – A 2007 horror film sequel about the outbreak of the Rage Virus, which causes dandelion and garlic mustard to begin growing all over.

6. Tales – A trio of toupees live in homes of various strength, composed of straw, stick and stone, only one of which survives a breathy attack.

7. Animated TV – A man’s facial hair is used to defeat Professor Coldheart and Lord No Heart in a series that debuted in 1985. We almost got into a little trouble here since neither of us were watching animated shows in 1985, but we got it…

8. Dr. Seuss – A 1963 book about a father who is trapped underneath a large domesticated pig,

9. Britney – Britney brags to wet cleaning implements that she has completed doing something that she’s already done before.

10. State Capitals – The name of the second-least populous state capital is also a verb meaning to “make a hole through.”

Mystery – 2018 films

The correct response to each part is the title of a 2018 movie with just ONE letter changed.

Give the new title based on the new description.

M1 – In a post-apocalyptic world, the Abbott family is impressed by the blind monsters that operate an aircraft that is completely silent

M2 – This highest-grossing film of the year features a LEGO sculpture of a cougar

M3 – Hank Pym does the laundry

M4 – Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish learn about incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs and CFL bulbs

Got all of these. We and three other teams were tied for second with 62 points.

Final Category – Countries

The name of a country with TWO letters changed:
A landlocked four-door vehicle that borders both Uganda and Kenya in which citizens under the age of 18 can ride.

Got it, but it just kept us in second…

That’s it for virtual games for a bit, but it sometimes comes down a game day decision. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, John Smith!
