A member of the ‘Pods and a member of Sparty On met up Monday for an afternoon My Trivia Live game at Canton Bistro and Tavern. So what happened? Well, 37 is a prime number, isn’t it? That was probably the most remarkable thing about the game! Thirty-seven points heading into the final question! Yeah, it was bad…you might want to stop reading here. But you’re not going to do that, are you? You’re going to continue reading to see just how terrible this was, aren’t you? Yeah, I knew it! We were laid low by an Egyptian mythology halftime round (that even my husband Mike, who reads Awakening Osiris for leisure reading) would have missed. We completely blew the fifth round, and even missed the final question, which was about presidents! Now I’m not claiming to be an expert in the category of presidents, but it’s unusual when any team I play with misses a final question in this category! To read about more questions we missed (and some we got correct), keep on truckin’!
Round One
1. Military – Squid and Swabbie are nicknames for what military branch personnel? 5
2. Animals – Goose, marlin, whale, and poison dart frogs are all associated with what color prefix? Educated guess for 3.
3. Olympics – Katarina Witt, Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hamill were all Olympic competitors in what sport? Yay, an easy Olympics question!
Round Two
1. Acronyms – What is the acronym for the low earth orbit satellite? Considered right answer, but went with another, miss for 3.
2. Food – What Hawaiian dish is made from tarot root pounded into a paste? 5
3. Proverbs – What proverb, when paraphrased, means that when needing help, don’t be particular or dictate how the help occurs? Paraphrased…Bonus question – What English proverb, paraphrased, means if wishing could make things happen, then even the most destitute would have everything they wanted? Got the first part but risked the bonus, so no points.
Round Three
1. Current TV – What is the name of the girl with telekinetic abilities on the Netflix series “Stranger Things?” 5
2. SCIENCE! – Magnesium sulfate, commonly used as a bath additive, is more commonly known as what?
3. Kwanzaa – The name Kwanzaa, which means “first fruit,” is derived from what African language? Yay we picked the correct African language…
Halftime – What four animals, all depicting the children of Horus, comprise the lids of canopic jars used to store the mummified remains of the deceased during the afterlife?
We picked four animals…just not ANY of the correct ones…
We were tied for third going into the second half with 23 points. Team Way Past Our Bedtime was in first with 31 points.
Round Four
1. TV Shows – On The Simpsons, when Maggie spoke her first word in 1992, what actress provided the voice? 6
2. Geography – Chile and what other country are the only two countries to not border Brazil? This was definitely NOT our game, geography questions are also a rare miss! Missed this for 4.
3. ’80s Films – What is the real first name of “Baby” in “Dirty Dancing?” Kim was all over this, thankfully. I would have been a miss on this ’80s movie question. Maybe I should have stayed home
🙂
Round Five (you really don’t want to read these questions…wait, you do, don’t you?)
1. Three Wishes – What does Jafar in “Aladdin” choose as his third wish? Miss.
2. ’50s Christmas Songs – Who sung the original version of “Jingle Bell Rock” in 1957? Nope…miss
3. Landmarks – Arch Bridge, which connects the two sides of Niagara Falls, is also known by what name? Psssttt…this bridge is NOT guarded by Heimdall…miss.
Goose egg for this whole round.
Round Six
1. NHL – What award, given annually, is given to a player demonstrating good sportsmanship, good conduct and high standards? Kim really tried on this one, but nope, miss.
2. History – What term refers to the 30,000 German troops recruited to fight on the British side in the American Revolutionary War? Photo tie in…can we recruit some of these soldiers to finish this trivia game for us?
🙂

Christopher Walken had ALL of the best lines in the 1999 film Sleepy Hollow, lol…and no, none of the lines were “more cowbell.”
3. Help – How many breaths did the American Red Cross recommend giving in between compression sets when administering CPR? Nope, no life breathed into this game at the last minute for us!
Thirty-seven points heading into the final! Record low!
Heading into the final: Barside, 30; GDX (us) 37; Department of Useless Knowledge, 55; Way Past our Bedtime, 55, and Grayson’s Goombas, 59.
Final Category – Presidents
Name one of the three U.S. presidents whose wives died while they were serving in office.
We picked a president who lost his wife…just not while he was serving in office.
Unsure who won first, I think it was Way Past our Bedtime.
Shake…this…OFF! Ugh! Terrible!
We will have to see if we can play here next week, that depends upon work schedules, moon phases, and whether or not our horoscopes recommend going out for an afternoon trivia game! The next ‘Pods outing is Wednesday, so look for a recap of that game on Thursday afternoon! As always, Go Pods (even though this was not a ‘Pods game) and stay classy, Headless Horseman!
