Trivia Recap – October 10, 2019 – Corner Brewery (Ypsilanti MI)

We didn’t really “plan” to do any trivia games Wednesday night, but wouldn’t you know it – weather started getting a bit too nippy out in the bier garten, so we went inside and were going to “spectate” the game from a table just outside the trivia room. Then I noticed there were a few minutes before the game would start, so….why not? The “guys” agreed to play at least one game, so we signed up. We logged a score of 76 for the night (for one game).

Side note…my husband said rather than “agreed” the word should be “strong armed!” I quipped back that bringing a trivia junkie to a bar on trivia night and NOT letting them play is like bringing an opium fiend to an opium den and not letting them have any opium! Maybe I should give David Crosby a call…

And here are the questions…assume they will be reasonable facsimiles of/abbreviated versions of the questions that were asked during the game, assume they may not have all been written down word for word, and assume that there may be additional qualifiers for some of the questions that were not written down. Audio questions will not be written down. Now let’s go to last night’s trivia game! As a special note, these questions are even MORE abbreviated than usual! I didn’t have a lot of paper for note taking, so…do your best! Also, no answers for this game (I barely had enough paper for note taking let alone writing down every answer)!

Game One

1. World Series – The World Series of Poker is held annually in what city?

2. Spanish – Arroz is the Spanish word for what food?

3. Countries – What country declared independence from Italy in 1929 under the Lateran Treaty? Miss.

4. Titles – A 1983 movie starring Michael Keaton, a 1991 movie starring Christina Applegate and a 1994 movie starring Kathleen Turner all feature what common word in their titles?

I absolutely LOVE this movie (the 1994 movie mentioned in the previous question). This character reminds me of my mother – if she happened to snap!

5. TV Resumés – Name one of the series in which Joshua Jackson has appeared in more than 40 episodes – two series for a bonus point. Got one but not both.

6. U.S. States – What U.S. state forms most of the eastern border of the state nicknamed the Volunteer State?

7. Measurements – To the nearest whole number, how many meters are in 20 feet? Miss.

8. 2019 Music – Audio clue…don’t have any more information.

9. Novels – What 1972 Richard Adams novel features rabbits?

10. Sports – Along with tennis, what mallet spot is in the official name of a location that hosts the annual Wimbledon championships?

Mystery – Authors

Given the names of the biographies and the years they were published, ID the celebrity authors.

M1 – Occupation Skateboarder, 2000

M2 – Losing My Virginity, 1998

M3 – Kiss and Make Up, 2009

M4 – A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To My Future, 2010

Missed #2 and #4. I guessed Stephen Sondheim for #4 because he wrote the music and lyrics for the play A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (even though Brad did suggest the right answer). D’oh!

I didn’t write down scores…we were in ninth..or something with 56 points!

Final Category – Animated TV

A mouse named Floyd, a mailman named Herman, a pig named Orson, and a rooster named Roy are some of the main characters from segments on an animated TV series that originally aired from 1988-1994 and featured what title character?

Got it, but couldn’t land in the prize zone…

Game Two (sorry no category names)

1. Name one of the singers in the duet song Ebony and Ivory…I think players could name both for a bonus point, but not sure about that.

2. What ’80s TV series featured characters named Tony, Angela and Mona – among others?

3. A 1820 act of Congress is named after what U.S. state?

4. What is the shared name of an AI created by Tony Stark and Avengers butler?

5. Audrey Hepburn’s iconic sunglasses from Breakfast at Tiffany’s are named for what New York City borough?

6. What is the name of the actress playing Judy Garland in the 2019 movie Judy?

7. What type of food is nicoise – which is made of tomatoes, eggs and anchovies – among ther things?

8. What two countries share a border near a demilitarized zone at the 38th parallel?

9. Sorry, I can’t make any sense of my notes..at all! Something about a – sportscaster? Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

10. What country is home to headquarters for Aston Martin, Land Rover and Jaguar?

Final –

There are five MLB franchises whose most recent World Series win was in the 1980s. Name two of those five teams.

We’ll be playing “for reals” tonight at Original Gravity, where we haven’t played in about four months! Will the “hot streak’ we’ve been enjoying this week in terms of trivia prizes continue tonight – or  will we fizzle out like cheap fireworks? It will be nice to return to this old “haunt” for one night only! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, that annoying lady in Serial Mom who refused to recycle (she definitely deserved to die, LOL)!
