Trivia Recap – July 9, 2026 – McShane’s Pub – My Trivia Live – Ypsilanti, MI

No answers for this one. Just do your best to figure them out –  or message me or comment on this post if you get super desperate!

After a busy second half of June that involved two different vehicular calamities with two separate cars, we’ve been struggling a bit to find a place to wage our “regular” trivia battles (besides the music quiz ones every Monday night).

You know how some players like to say “It’s all about the final question?” Well, in the case of this game, it really was all about…that!

If you’re young enough to be really, really into K Pop Demon Hunters, this Big Lebowski reference is probably way too old of a pop culture reference for you!

We finished first with a $30 prize 😄 But we really had to earn that.

We were in second to last place going into the final and there was a seven-person team – apparently one that hadn’t played together for a minute – who dominated the six regular rounds of the game. After an unfortunate string of flubs, I said “Well, since our game is f—ed anyway, it’s all about the final question now.”

I didn’t think I would be right 😂

Both of us – my husband and I – were in fairly upbeat moods on this night, so we actually took the wrong answers in stride. We were just happy to be…out of the house and taking a break from streaming TV!

Here were our very, very abbreviated questions:

Round One

Classic Cartoons – What sailor comic character who first appeared in 1929 derives his power from spinach?

Sports – How many total bases are on a standard baseball diamond?

Presidents – Which president named the rose as the national floral emblem of the US in 1986?

Round Two

Latin Words – What Latin derived word for a painful condition means “inflammation in the joints?” Something we know about a bit too well ☹️

On the Menu – What fast-food chain temporarily removed cheesy fiesta potatoes from its menu in 2020, bringing them back a year later? I mean – what other fast-food chain could it be? 🌮🔔🤔

Flowers – Inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, what red flower is used to commemorate the military dead?

Round Three

Nicknames – What state, known as the “Treasure State,” is home to two national parks? Miss. We had two possibilities written down, chose the wrong one.

Workout Music – What athletic brand was commissioned by the band LCD Soundsystem so that its songs from its album 4533 coordinated with people jogging? It’s probably a bad thing that I can name a lot of athletic brands because of my job. Of course it would HAVE to be the one that most people probably think of first 😩

Borders – What two oceans meet at the Cape of Good Hope?

Halftime – Colleges

Name four of the five global universities that top U.S. News and World’s Report’s “best” list. Three are in the U.S., two are located abroad.

We got all four. Ten points!

Halftime scores:

Keeping up with the Joneses, 27; Islamic Island of Japan, 39; Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 39; Dead Guys, 30; Pocket Pool Sharks, 32; Pods (Us), 33 and We’re Back With Courtney, 36.

Round Four

Streaming Firsts – In 2026, what was the first title in Netflix history to spend 52 weeks in the global top ten? Miss. Truly a “F—, we’re too old for this sh–” topic!

Archaeology – The ruins of the ancient city of Petra are located in what modern day country? I seem to remember Petra being the name of a Christian metal band that one of my friends in high school used to talk about – but I couldn’t remember which friend it was (it was the 80s, it really could have been any one of my five or so friends 😂

Miss for us.

World Leaders – What European country has had Giorgia Meloni as its prime minister since 2022?

Round Five

Latin Phrases – The public radio station KQED’s call letters QED represent what Latin phrase which means “To be demonstrated?” We used our “answer of the week” option to get a free blast of six points here. No idea.

Infamous People – In what city was Martin Luther King Jr. assassin James Earl Ray arrested in June, 1968? I picked the city where Robert Kennedy was assassinated, miss.

Console Games – In the 1990s, what company produced the educational gaming console called Pico? Miss.

Round Six

Animals – Robofovski and Syrian are two species of what small animal commonly kept as a pet?

Sports – After more than 70 years, the sports network CBC will stop broadcasting games from what sport? We thought we were so smart for picking the sport that likely wouldn’t be missed by Canadian viewers as much as the other one. You know – their national sport? Wrong…what the hell are they doing? Oh yeah, making decisions based on money.

Vegetables -Iceberg, butterhead and romaine are all types of what vegetable?

Scores heading into the final:

Islamic Island of Japan, 50; Pods/Keeping Up with the Joneses, 53; Pants/Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 55; Lab Rats, 56; Pocket Pool Sharks/Dead Guys, 58; and We’re Back with Courtney were in first with 60.

Final Category – Trademarks

Currently owned by Reynolds, what trademarked product name for clear plastic bags was famously registered as a direct competitor for another brand?

I came up with a name I remembered being used for plastic bags back in days of auld that turned out to be right. Only one other team (Islamic Island of Japan, who was right behind us in last place going into the final) got it correct.

Underdogs rule?

This concludes our trivial pursuits for the week.

As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Olive Oil!
