Just a handful of teams – literally, I mean if you’re human and have five fingers – showed up for a recent My Trivia Live game at McShane’s Pub.
Wait…it was actually six teams, so a special mutated handful of teams actually showed up!
We finished with a third place $10 prize. The final question was one that a lot of teams seemed to know…
It was fun being able to have our longtime friend and trivia teammate Dave join us for trivia for the first time since February!
We’d been playing mostly Monday and Tuesday games over the past few months, which are the nights he tends to be unavailable for trivia.
Here were our very abbreviated questions based on my even more abbreviated handwritten notes that I can only hope I can read:
Round One
Museums – When it is not on loan, what is the home museum for the Mona Lisa?
Medicine – What part of the body does a podiatrist treat?
Nicknames – Chevron and Fu Manchu are what types of facial hair?
So far, so good…
Round Two
Math – What irrational number calculates the area of a circle?
Fictional Vehicles – What is the name of the main spacecraft in the original Star Trek TV series? I was so hoping that this would be about another fictional vehicle…

Science – What is the name of the process that turns glucose or other sugars into alcohol?
No misses yet…
Round Three
Kids’ TV – What was the full name of the original Power Rangers TV series debuting in 1993?
German Words – What word used in German folklore describes a replica of man, bird or beast – that if one encounters their respective one, it signals imminent death?
My husband Mike had a couple of these when he was attending college at CMU. Yet he still lives! Funny punchline of it all – they were also twins š
They had a good laugh when they actually met and ran into each other. Did this happen at a video store? Or bar? The former video store location might be a liquor store now called Liquor Well (I’m not joking about that)!
Famous Oopsies – Host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner of what TV pageant in 2015? Oopsie for us, miss.

Halftime Category – TV Dogs
When given the name of a TV dog, identify the series on which it was a pet:
H1 Santa’s Little Helper
H2 Astro
H3 Comet
H4 Buck
We got all of these. I remembered #3 just because it was something I remembered reading before, I have never even watched the series! Don’t you love it when you luck out like that in a trivia game?
Halftime scores:
Keeping Up with the Joneses, 27; Pursuit of O Snappiness, 28; Dead Guys/Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 31; Pods, (us) 36.
Round Four
2026 Movies – What 2026 American action comedy film stars Jason Momoa and David Bautista? Miss.

Armed Forces – Established in 1506, what elite armed force maintained by the Holy See protects the Pope?
Capital Cities – What is the capital of Jamaica?
Round Five
Oh Baby! Give the most popular name for a boy and a girl for the past seven years according to the Social Security Administration. I came up with the right guess for the girl name, but we didn’t want to risk the points for a two-part question, so…we used our “answer of the week” to get the points for free.
Artists – What Dutch graphic artist, born in 1898, used media including woodcuts and designs displayed on books inspired by mathematics? Mike knew this one, but he would kick himself later for not wagering higher. He gets so competitive sometimes!
Communication – What four-word phrase encompassed the very first telegraph message sent by Samuel Morse on May 24, 1844? We didn’t know this, so for lack of anything better, we put in the answer for the first phone phrase ever spoken – “Watson, I Need You.” Some other team put in a joke guess of “Are you up, babe?” So much funnier than our wrong answer!
Round Six
Beer – What Milwaukee-based beer brand founded in the 1840s recently announced it was being discontinued after 175 years? We incorrectly guessed PBR. Oopsie.
Companies – What company’s founder invented an engine in 1903 that could be mounted to a bicycle? Miss. So “duh” when the answer was revealed. Another oopsie for us.
“Oopsie” is today’s secret word! Whenever you hear it or read it, scream really loud (Pee Wee’s Playhouse rules)! Oopsie (ahem)!
Education – The American Bar Association provides accreditation for what type of graduate students?
Scores heading into the final:
Keeping Up with the Joneses, 29; Pursuit of O Snappiness, 50; Dead Guys, 55; Pods (us), 60; Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 61 and Pants, 64.
Final Category – Page to Screen
In 1987, Frank Darabont bought the rights to what Stephen King novella for $5,000, which was adapted later into an Oscar nominated film which grossed $73.3 million?
Final standings remained the same. We finished third with $10 prize.
This concludes our trivial pursuits for the week. Unsure what our trivia plans are next week, since we’ll be out of town for a camping trip on Juneteenth. If nothing else, we’ll see some of you teams at the Sporcle Events “Globe Game” Sunday, June 21.
I’m 50/50 on whether I’ll attend the music quiz game Monday, that will depend upon how my work day goes.
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Andy Dufresne!
