Trivia Recap – Game # 736 – December 6, 2022 – Virtual Sporcle “Pub Quiz” Format

If the questions we’ve had in the past couple of virtual trivia games are any indicator? We know an unhealthy amount of things about junk food! In a recent mystery round, we were quizzed about snack cookies/crackers – and more recently, we aced a question with a bonus point attached about candy bars. Topics that still stump us are the multiple varieties of Mountain Dew, fast food burger varieties and the many flavors they’ve made for Doritos chips. Guess we’ll have to work on that, huh?

I don’t think we’ll ever have a trivia question about Paramount potato chips! This was a largely localized brand of chips known mainly in the mid Michigan area between the 1960s up until the early 1990s, when apparently they lost the great war of shelf space supremacy to the goliath chip makers Frito Lay. Its mascot was Slim Chiply, the “Flavor Deputy.”

Here were our questions:

1 Scandals – The political controversy known as the Whitewater scandal took place while which U.S. president was in office?

2 Candy – Besides the Milk Chocolate Bar, Hershey’s Miniatures Assortment bags currently include three other candy bars. Name two of those three candy bars.
NERD POINT: Name all three.

3. Fashion – Miu Miu is a high fashion brand of clothing and accessories from what Italian fashion house? FB host clue.

4 Music Videos – What singer appears in the music video for the 2000 single “Stan” by Eminem, which samples her song “Thank You?”

Got all of these correct. We will not do so well on the upcoming mystery round!

Mystery One –

For this mystery round, your team can give four answers and can put them in any order you choose. You will receive two points for each correct answer.

Name four of the five highest-grossing animated films at the domestic box office with a number or Roman numeral in their titles.

We only got one correct movie. Ugh…

Round Two –

5 Organizations – What international organization with the principal mission to maintain world peace was founded as a result of the Paris Peace Conference that ended World War I?

6 Dream Team – Name one of the two players on the 1992 United States men’s Olympic basketball “Dream Team” who played the FEWEST NBA games after the conclusion of the Olympics. We named a correct Dream Team player, surprisingly enough – just not the right one. Boo…

7 TV Moms – Actress Constance Wu plays Jessica Huang, the mother of characters named Eddie, Emery, and Evan, on what sitcom that aired from 2015-2020? Such an awesome Tiger Mom!

8 Science Firsts -In 2014, the European Space Agency confirmed that its robotic lander Philae touched down on the surface of what type of celestial body? It was the first landing of its kind. Usually these kinds of questions are totally Mike’s territory, but I made the right guess on this one (woot)!

Mystery Two –

The correct answer to each clue will include the letters “T-O-P,” in that order.

1. Traditional November birthstone

2. Retail chain opened in 1989 that attracts younger shoppers with a mix of music apparel and accessories and licensed pop culture products

3. Actor who stars as Tom on the ABC sitcom Home Economics

4. 2020 Oscar-winning documentary film directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed about a diver who befriends a marine creature

Got all of these correct.

We were in seventh going into the final with 46 points.

Final Category – Book Titles

The first book released in Sue Grafton’s “alphabet series” of crime novels was “A” Is for Alibi.

Name two of the five books associated with the letters “B” through “F,” each of which follows the same naming convention.

We had to name three, which we did. We moved up to second with 61 points.

As always, Go Pods, and stay classy
