Trivia Recap – Game # 735 – December 2, 2022 – Virtual Sporcle “Pub Quiz” Format

A friend of ours was recently isolating while recovering from COVID, so we decided we’d schedule a virtual game to help him break up the monotony of staring at the same four walls and ease the ache of fingers so very tired from the actions of scrolling through social media posts on a cell phone – and help ease his eyes that were so very tired of bingeing any number of offerings on Netflix. Do people still watch Tiger King? Squid Game (which I hear is not about actual squids)? Wednesday – now THAT is the series to binge right now! I can’t get enough of that psychotic resting bitch face darling Wednesday!

In a strange turn of events, we managed to get an entire NFL draft mystery round 100 percent correct! Yeah, yeah…I know what you’re thinking – did we (gasp) cheat? Oh heavens no! We just happened to have help from a NFL draft obsessed teenager who helped provide the “assist” at exactly the precise time! Good thing, too – the question was about University of Alabama players in particular – and when he said he wasn’t sure of one of his guesses, we were joking about putting down “Alabama Man” as our guess – but we wisely went with his guess instead. Some of you “South Park” fans might remember who “Alabama Man” is! Or you can do a search of the Internets if you’re curious to find out! Here’s a picture of the classy gent below:

Our virtual game was hosted by Boston area host “Epic.” Here were our questions:

Round One –

1 TV Characters – In addition to the title character, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander are credited in every episode of what sitcom that premiered in 1989?

2 Money – Since 1964, the U.S. half dollar has included a depiction of John F. Kennedy on its obverse side. From 1948-1963, what non-president Founding Father was featured instead?

3 Flags – Name two of the five sovereign nations whose national flags consist only of white and blue.
NERD POINT: Name three of five.

We got one but not two…so miss.

4. BRITNEY SPEARS – What was the name of the 2002 film featuring Britney Spears? There were more qualifiers to this question, but I didn’t copy them all down.

Mystery One –

Also A Style Of Beer – The correct answer to each clue is also a style of beer.

M1. Color of the waves of grain in the lyrics to “America the Beautiful”

M2. Person employed to carry luggage and other loads, especially at a railroad station, airport, or hotel

M3. Adjective describing an object that is strong and thick

M4. Angry, hurt, or resentful because of one’s bad experiences or a sense of unjust treatment

Round Two –

5 Drinks – According to the International Bartenders Association, a Bellini is made with two parts Prosecco and one part of what fresh fruit’s puree? Susan was the superhero here since she’s actually drank these before!

6 Gaming – What do two of the three letters stand for in the abbreviation RTS, in terms of the video game subgenre in which games do not progress in a turn-based fashion but rather as the game actually progresses?

7 Companies – What American company is the world’s largest producer of fruits and vegetables?

8 Battles – The battles of Lexington, Concord and Bunker Hill were fought during what war?

Mystery Two – Quickfire

For this mystery round, your team can give four answers and can put them in any order you choose. You will receive two points for each correct answer.

Heisman Quickfire – Name the four players from the Univ. of Alabama that have won the Heisman Trophy in the last 15 years.

Despite getting both mystery rounds 100 percent correct and only missing one question (for five points, ugh) – we were in seventh going into the final with 47 points.

Final Category – 1980s Movies

In the 1986 film Top Gun, in addition to “Wolfman,” there are three characters with call signs that are the name of a type of animal.

Name those three call signs, which are a bird, a reptile, and a mammal.

We struggled a bit to come up with the correct reptile and mammal names, but we got them… Good thing, too – we wouldn’t want to write checks that our bodies couldn’t cash. Wait, how does that quote go? Need for speed? It’s been a long, long time since I’ve seen this movie!

That was a fun way to hook up with people we haven’t seen in a while! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Benjamin Franklin!
