Sometimes your trivia “pardner” will talk you out of correct answers in trivia games, and yet you still decide to stay married (JK)! It’s all about balance. It makes up for those times when you insist that a certain answer about say…characters in Charles Dickens novels is correct and yet it turns out to be incorrect. And let us not speak about Charles Dickens ever, ever again!
We wound up finishing in fifth place in a virtual game hosted by Bahston area host Epic. Yes, that was my lame attempt to spell that city phonetically if you’re a person who lives in or near there!
Here were our questions:
Round One –
1 Cooking – Commonly done with eggs, what cooking method involves keeping a liquid at a relatively low temperature and then submerging food in the liquid to cook it? I sometimes cook chicken like this when I’m feeling lazy.
2 ATHLETES: What current NFL broadcaster for CBS Sports set the record for highest completion percentage in a Super Bowl on his way to be named MVP of Super Bowl XXIII in 1987 and would be the first player to appear in an ad stating “I’m Going To Disney World?”

Good news is we picked a quarterback from that era who went on to become a broadcaster. The guy we picked even had the same hair color as the correct guy. But…we didn’t pick the correct blonde, (slightly dumb) former quarterback who went on to become a broadcaster (which is a natural transition). I mean what else are they going to do? Become gym teachers? Speaking of gym teachers, I recently took a little trip down memory lane involving my fourth grade gym teacher Mrs. Conway, who thought it was a good idea to play the Olivia Newton John song “Physical” as part of our class warmup (RIP Olivia Newton-John)! Did she know about any of the racy lyrics of the song? Was she having a joke on us? Is there another way to interpret “You gotta know that you’re bringin’ out
The animal in me?” Questions abound!
3 Film Characters – Lucky, Dusty, and Ned are the main characters in what 1986 comedy film? My husband absolutely loves this film, though I hated it when I first saw it. I agreed to give it another chance. It is now on request at our local library! It’s a great free way to watch stuff that isn’t easy to find free streaming.
4 Entertainment – Since 2006, Cirque du Soleil has debuted four separate shows developed around and featuring the music of three different musical artists. Name two of those three musical artists.
NERD POINT: Name all three. We didn’t even get one single artist correct. Clearly we need to go to the circus more often! There actually was a circus in my town recently! I got to see the tents and equipment going in at the local mall in which I work (no it’s not a dead mall…yet). It was the Cirque Italia and I guess it was a water circus or something. After seeing hundreds of cars in that parking lot the previous week for the Ann Arbor Art Fairs, a circus was a nice change! And now a Halloween store is going into the old Sears storefront. Glad to know the mall is leasing the space at least for a while!
Mystery One – Visual

Round Two –
5 Mythology – According to Greek mythology, the Trojan War started after Paris of Troy stole Helen from what man who ruled as the King of Sparta?
6 Makeup – With the longest running cosmetics contract of any model in history, Christie Brinkley spent 25 years as the face of what cosmetics company?
7 Economics – Derived from the French for “leave it to us” or “let us do it”, what phrase describes a policy of governmental non-interference in economic affairs?
8 Statues – One of the tallest statues in the U.S. is Pegasus and Dragon, which is located at the Gulfstream Park Racetrack and Casino in which state? Missed this, but seemed so duh when the answer was revealed. D’oh!
Mystery Two –
Missed #4 (darn you doctor/cop/lawyer TV show questions anyway)!
We were tied with one other team for fifth with 42 points going into the final.
Final Category – Superheroes
The original seven members of the Justice League were Superman, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and what other two superheroes?
This was all Mike…
Moved up one space since the team we were tied with did not get this correct.
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Lobo!
round one
poaching, phil simms, three amigos, beatles/elvis/michael jackson
round two
menelaus, cover girl, laissez-faire, florida
mystery one
mission impossible, twin peaks, will and grace, gilmore girls
mystery two
kraken, the giving tree, in my pocket, adam arkin
final – aquaman, green lantern
I loved the Three Amigos! Every time El Guapo says, “It’s a sweater!”. I belly laugh.
