Toys from the 1980s were the stars in a recent set of virtual trivia questions – with “those” popular soft dolls with the yarn hair – and those annoyingly cute bears with stuff on their bellies being question topics (one of those topics was the final question topic). While my husband and I chatted about some of our favorite toys from that time, he told me that he’d never heard of Playmobil toys. Really? Did I 404 him with that pop culture knowledge?
Did y’all know that Playmobil has released a Knight Rider playset in honor of Knight Rider’s 40th anniversary? Does anyone else feel really old realizing that Knight Rider is that old? Seriously, it looks really cool – and it makes me want to pretend I have kid to buy it for (even though I don’t have the money to do so at the moment): https://www.playmobil.us/knight-rider—k.i.t.t./70924.html
On to more about 80s toys! And other topics!
Round One
1 Dolls – The signature of Xavier Roberts can be found on what line of soft sculptured dolls that was first widely produced in the 1980
My mother was smart. She got me an African American version of the doll – and a “preemie.” Neither of which were in high demand. I loved them just as much as I would had they been more “in demand.” She was progressive as well as shopping savvy!
2 Bad Movies – Name either of the films—both with a number in their titles—that shared the Golden Raspberry Award (Razzie) for Worst Picture in 2015.
3 NBA Stars – Shaquille O’Neal ended his career by playing his final season with which Eastern Conference NBA team?
Miss, we guessed Miami Heat.4 Planets – Due to the high volume of atmospheric carbon dioxide creating a strong greenhouse gas effect, which planet in the solar system is the hottest?
Mike was the hero here.Round Two
5 2000s Music – What band named after an article of clothing hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007 with the song “Hey There Delilah?” I read something about how the real life Delilah was, at first, not particularly happy about the attention that song brought to her. I think she got over it later and got on stage with this group or something. If you look at a photo of the band, one of the guys looks like he doesn’t want to be there.
6 Mayors – In 1987, Lottie Shackelford became one of the first Black women to serve as mayor of a U.S. state capital when she was appointed to the position in what Southern city? Another FB clue (one of the virtual hosts gives clues that the other hosts do not give out – it’s always a nice bonus when both questions come up in the game – a reason to play Tuesday or Thursday nights with Denver based host Deana)!
7 Logos – What insurance company founded in 1868 has used a breaching humpback whale in advertising since 1997? Missed a question about this in a game a few years ago. Never again!
8 Games – In the game of billiards, the 1 ball is primarily what color? Thank you Mike for delving into your college pool hall memories…
Mystery Two – Identify the persons with the letters “ton” in their names when given their birth years/life spans
1. Friend. Emmy. Pitt. (1969-present)
2. WWII. Normandy. Bulge. (1885-1945)
3. Duelist. Treasurer. Grange. (1757-1804)
4. Funk. Parliament. Loopzilla. (1941-present)
Got all of these.
We were in fifth going into the final with 51 points (a pretty good game for us)!
Final Category – Cartoons
Of course we were excited about this category. Sadly it was not about Looney Tunes!
The Care Bears were introduced in the 1980s, appearing in greeting cards, a TV series, and several movies.
Among the original ten Care Bears are Tenderheart Bear, Funshine Bear, Love-a-Lot Bear, and Birthday Bear.
Name two of the other six original Care Bears, whose “belly badges” include a moon, a rainbow, flowers, a four-leaf clover, a raincloud, and a shooting star.
Perhaps Mike’s sister helped us get these correct from afar? We got these correct (thanks Man)! I never got into Care Bears, but I did have a light blue nightie with a “Shirt Tales” penguin on it when I was 10 or so (and I ended up wearing that well into high school). Was it flame retardant? Hell if I know! It was cute…
Didn’t change our standings.
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Grumpy Bear! That’s the bear my husband would be! 🙂
