I just received word that a local craft brewery called Original Gravity in Milan, MI has unleashed their Belgian tripel called Mind Flayer, weighing in at 8.1 percent ABV. Belgians are among my favorite beer styles, and I’m not talking about the Miller Coors beer called “Blue Moon.” While Blue Moon doesn’t taste TOO bad, when compared to a Belgian dubbel, tripel or quadrupel, it would run away crying like a little boy bested in a playground fight with a bully.

I vaguely remember my nerdy husband commenting on Mind Flayer when we visited Original Gravity. He says they’re powerful psionic baddies that will suck your brains. I looked up pictures in Google images, and my first impression was Davy Jones meets Elvira. No, not the Monkees’ Davy Jones, but the Davy Jones from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

I’ll have to take a trip to Milan soon! This will be a good Christmas eve beer!
