I’ve copied/pasted this from a trivia host’s Facebook post…I haven’t decided if I’ll be trying this out or not – may be best to wait until kinks have been worked out.
Hey all! It’s time to get all the details out. Sporcle Live Virtual Trivia is coming and we start on Wednesday, April 8.
Trivia will be happening every night starting on Wednesday, with 1-hour games starting at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, and 11pm. This is the link to those games! https://www.sporcle.com/live/virtual-trivia/
But there is more to this. There is an FAQ at the bottom of that page which will answer questions as well, but I will put a few things in this post.
First, players will need to purchase a ticket in order to play. Each ticket is $5 and will allow one device to connect to the game (a link will be sent to that player. There is a maximum of 8 teams per game, with a maximum of 6 players per team. You cannot buy one ticket for a room of 6 people. At most, there should only be two people per device. That wouldn’t be fair to the company and the hosts only make money from the ticket sales. It’d be like your parents taking you to the drive-in and you and your sister are hiding in the trunk.
…….so the drive-in was a place where you……..ask your parents….
Second, answers will be submitted through an app which the team captain will use to turn them in. Teams will be broken out into Breakout rooms where they can discuss their answers, but it will be the responsibility of the captain to submit the answer and wager before time runs out. You all know that I am somewhat generous in turning in answers 10-20 late, but this is now electronic and I don’t have control of the timer.
Third, prizes. One registration earns you an entry, and a win earns your team another entry in to our weekly raffle. Each week we’ll pull a giveaway winner from these entries. If it’s you, you’ll be able to choose between a $100 gift card to any bar that hosts Sporcle Live, Stump! or OpinioNation OR a $50 Amazon e-gift card.
Fourth, what about the hosts who are hosting virtual trivia for free? That, I can’t answer. I’m certainly not here to tell you to not play their games. All I can tell you is that I want ALL of the hosts back. That isn’t viable yet, but I’m confident Sporcle is doing all they can to get there. If we get players signing up for these virtual games, it’ll definitely happen quicker.
If you have questions, please go to the ticket link above and check out the FAQs. You can ask me as well and if I can’t answer them, I’ll see what I can do to get answers for you. As it stands, I will be hosting my first game on Wednesday, April 8 at 7pm. I miss you all and I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.
