Actor Robert Forster died at age 78 Friday, October 11 after a battle with cancer.
The two “big” things that I remember him from for his roles was the 1997 movie Jackie Brown and the most recent version of the Twin Peaks TV series.
Robert Forster as Sheriff Frank Truman in Twin Peaks.
I really liked his character Max Cherry in Jackie Brown, a role for which he received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. He plays a…jaded character – who has become very mired in his job as a bail bondsman, but falls madly in love with the title character Jackie Brown (played by the gorgeous Pam Grier) – whom he encounters because she has to get…bailed out of jail. On the first night they meet, she’s just been released from jail, and she wants a cigarette – for one, and wants to remain in poor lighting for a bit. I can dig that – when a woman is over 40, dim lighting can be her best friend!

Max Cherry has to walk the tightrope between his professionalism – and the drug charges that are dogging Jackie. It really is hard to not like his character – he’s a good man but not a goody goody – he’s not an innocent but isn’t a spring chicken – and he’s tough – but kind.
I’m not going to reveal any more about Jackie Brown! If you haven’t seen it or read about it, you can find out yourself whether Max and Jackie get together in the movie or not…
