Editor’s note: This is a recap of a May, 2013 game at The Corner Brewery posted by a team called More Beer Less Pants. Though that was a night my team also normally played at this bar, my team was doing a “theme” trivia night elsewhere (science fiction). We did quite well in this theme night!
Fair results for the regular duo playing Sporcle Live – Detroit last night at the Corner Brewery, 117 total points and a $20 gift card.
For those of you that played the Sci-Fi game here are the questions from last night:
Editor’s note: I will put in my guesses/commentary for the answers to these questions!
1)What 100+ year old corporate logo is the name of the company, in block print, inside of a pickle? Heinz
2)What fashion company produces the “Guilty” line of fragrances? No clue. Upon looking up answer, this company was also correct answer in a MTL finals tournament about Gremlin vehicles from the 1970s (which we missed).
3)What former contestant on Celebrity Apprentice is the front man for the band Twister Sister? Dee Snider
4)On what Bravo reality TV show did NeNe Leakes gain fame? No idea, I prefer “surreality” shows to reality shows, thank you very much!
5)What 12mile by 5 mile island in South Carolina is home to 24 golf courses? I’m guessing Parris Island though I don’t think that’s right…Mike would probably know this.
6)The European Organization for Nuclear Research is also known by what 4-letter acronym? Nope. Looked up answer, would not have even come close.
7)In a standard deck of playing cards, which king is the only one without a mustache? Hearts? 25 percent chance of being right? 🙂 YES I got it!
8)How many yellow cards does a player need to collect in a game, in order to be ejected? Two (yay a soccer question)!
9)The two dogs owned by Dr. Emmett Brown in the Back to the Future movies were named after what two scientists? Einstein and…he had two dogs? Uh…Tesla? Darwin? No clue on the second dog. All I know is “Einstein” (nicknamed “Ein”) is the name of the dog in Cowboy Bebop and THAT DOG IS SO CUTE! Honestly, I had no idea that Doc Brown had more than one dog (the more you know)!
Einstein, aka “Ein” from the anime series Cowboy Bebop.
10)First introduced in 1983, what line of toys now come in with names such as Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack? I’m guessing Strawberry Shortcake (no idea). Gah, my first guess was correct…
What TV show premiered in March 2005 as a mid-season replacement for the show Committed, has gone on to air over 200 episodes and winning 4 prime time Emmys? The year should’ve been a clue for me here, but nope…bet Evan would know this one!
Emmy Awards? NOT it!
1)What is the full title of the sequel to Legally Blonde? Uh, I SHOULD know this, but my guess of Red, Hot and Blonde was incorrect. All I learned from watching the first movie (which is a HUGE guilty pleasure)? “The rules of hair care are simple and finite.” Even I know you don’t shampoo right away after a perm!
2)Charles Carroll, who died at age 95, was the last survivor of what? U.S. Civil War? No idea. With no year given for the clue this question is kind of hard to answer (though I did look up the correct answer).
3)What is the name of the lead female character in the book The Scarlet Letter? Hester Prynne (lord did I HATE this book).
4)What college did NBA player Paul Pierce attend? Nope.
5)What is the main ingredient used to make Sake? Rice, rice baby… Korean guy we know “claimed” that this wine is better when you heat it up, which he did by a campfire when we were camping. He got pretty…fermented after a while from doing this, but thankfully did not set himself on fire!
6)What is the capital of Colombia? Bogota
7)What was the theme song for the Roy Rogers TV show? Way too young to know this. MTL question!
8)The winner of the 2012 Best New Artist Grammy, Justin Vernon, is better known by what stage name/band name? Nope.
9)What is the term used to describes the practice of changing the boundary of congressional districts to favor a particular political party? Gerrymandering.
10)JK Simmons has appeared in films such as Juno and Spiderman, is featured in the current advertising for what insurance company? Farmer’s.
Name 3 of the 5 US capital cities that are also on the Social Security Administration’s list of top baby names of 2012. I’m guessing Madison, Jackson and…Austin? Meh, two of these are right!
