Things are really heating up in Sporcle Live trivia games Wednesdays at Arbor Brewing Company (Ypsilanti)! A mere six points now separate the teams in third through seventh place, and just four league points separate the first and second place teams. We stumbled in the overall standings a bit, moving from third place to sixth place. Congrats to the nine (or was it 10…maybe someone was getting a beer when I tried counting you guys) players on Your Resume Sucks for winning first place overall for the night and getting a first place prize sweep! That’s quite all right, we have seven more games to go, and this trivia battle ain’t over ’til it’s over! Nobody’s “perfect.” Ahem…more about the word “perfect” later, (wink-wink). You’re not going to be a “rockstar” in every trivia game, nor enjoy a nice stogie in “Havana” while sipping a mojito and watching the revolution in Cuba in 1959. What’s the significance of the words in quotes? Uh, nothing! π Nothing at all! Why do you ask? Speaking of “ask,” here are the questions that were asked…
Game One
1. Netflix – What Netflix series is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana? Photo tie-in, this one’s for you, Mike! 10

You blog followers are in for a special treat! I normally only use one photo with game recaps posted on our Facebook page, but I can use as many as I like with the blogs! I let my husband choose which female photo to use with the recap, and this is the one he chose. The other photo is also included down below. This is part of our “sweeps month” goal to use racy photos with game recaps. Shameless…Here is Winona Ryder inΒ Reality Bites.
2. Brand Names – To avoid legal action, Philips used what brand name for their electric shavers in the United States? The name was derived from North American Philips Electric Company? 9
3. Food – What type of sweet bread that originated in the British Isles is commonly made with raisins or currants and traditionally eaten on Good Friday? 8
4. Classic Movies – As of February, 2018, actress Olivia de Haviland is one of two living credited members of the cast of what 1939 film? 7
5. Birds – Capable of reaching speeds of more than 40 miles per hour, what is the fastest bird on land? 6
6. Reality TV – What MTV reality series that aired from 2003 to 2005 was subtitled “Nick and Jessica?” Miss for 1.
7. Athletic Achievements – Audio clue of Michael Phelps doing something awesome in the summer Olympics, I was in the bathroom and didn’t hear the audio clue. Miss for 2.
8. Tourism – Name one of two landmarks that are on either end of the 2.5 mile long Freedom Trail that runs through Boston – one is a public park, the other is a monument that commemorates what battle? Name both for an extra point, got both for 3. Nice teamwork! I had no clue on this one, glad you guys didn’t need me…
9. Art – What is the 10-letter title of a 1942 oil on canvas panting by Ed Hopper that depicts patrons in a diner in the late evening? 5
10. Song Titles – What 2013 single by Hozier reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and was his first charting single in the U.S.? Miss for 4.
Mystery – Elements
When arranged by atomic number, what are the first four elements on the Periodic Table with two-letter symbols?
Managed to get three correct.
Scores – Twenty teams in contention…We were tied for sixth with 58, Ennui was in first with 65.
Final Category – Number One Hits
From late-October 2017 to early-February 2018, every song that reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart had a one-word title. Name any one of those songs.
I knew one of the correct artists for sure, just couldn’t think of the song. Wagered 20 and missed. Pain is the best teacher, right? π The names of one of these singers will forever be etched in my brain because of this! Just don’t make me listen to any of his songs, please. I’ll do ANYTHING! Y’all remember how back in the ’80s, people would say, “If the music’s too loud, you’re too old?” Well, what would the equivalent of that be now? “If it’s too auto-tuned, you’re too old?” Yes, I think that works! π Moving on! Oh yes, top game finishers…
Ennui, 65; Jesus Chris Superstar, 66 (moved up from sixth); and YRS, 80. I’m gonna guess that Terry‘s son might have been a help in getting the final correct, make sure HE gets the whole gift card!
Game Two
1. Words – What Atlantic Ocean sea is located between Great Britain, Scandinavia, and mainland Europe? Brad all over this for 10.
2. Best Picture Winners – An investigation by a team at what major newspaper is central to the plot of the 2015 best picture winner Spotlight? True story, I really just watched this movie on Tuesday! I was more awed by how many actors in the movie have played comic book characters in movies than I was by the movie itself (blame the ADD…). Seriously, there are FOUR actors in this movie who have played comic book characters in movies (look that up)! Only two of them are “title” characters, though. How many can you spot? Mind…blown! 9

I went on a kick a few months ago where I made a bunch of journalism memes. This was one of them. Two actors who have played comic characters are pictured here! And because I’m in a good mood and feeling generous, I’ll include a picture of the other two actors below this one!

The guy in the middle is a big “duh,” but the other two guys might be tricky. The guy on the left played an antagonist in a 2009 film, the guy on the right also played a character in a 2009 film. If you really don’t want to bother looking up the answers, I don’t blame you! I’ll include them in the comments! See? I said I was in a good mood…
3. Companies – What company was founded in 2002 by Nick Workman following a surfing trip during which he was unable to capture quality action shots using traditional methods? A couple of different answers accepted here, got this for 8.
4. Early Albums – What singer/songwriter released a 1970 album called “Sweet Baby James” which included his first top 10 single? Now THIS is a music question I can handle! 7
5. Words – What is the 11-letter synonym for inoculation beginning with the letter “v?” Really? 6
6. Actors – What actor received multiple Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Dwight on “The Office?” 5
7. Plays – Other than Two Gentlemen from Verona, name one of the two other Shakespeare plays set at least partially in the town of Verona. Name both for a bonus point. Got one of them for 4.
8. Rockers on Film – In the 1992 film Wayne’s World, Wayne and Garth receive an access-all-areas pass for a concert in Milwaukee headlined by what real-life rocker? FB clue, 3.

Tia Carrere in Wayne’s World didn’t make the cut with the FB post, but she will be included here!
9. Pitchers – What Boston Red Sox pitcher won the ALCS in 2004 with ankle injury that became known as the “bloody sock” game? My notes were running right on the bottom of the page, I hope I got this right! We didn’t get this question, miss for 1. Nice try, Brad!
10. Games – What Hasbro game released in 2016 requires players to recite phrases while wearing dental dams in their mouths? We put “dental dam fun with kids” as a joke guess, never heard of this game, miss for 2.
Mystery – https://www.sporcle.com/blog/visual/border27/ Missed #4 (I think).
Scores – Twenty teams again – Money Badgers, YRS and Macho Nachos were all tied for first with 61 points. We were in fourth – tied with three other teams – with 58.
Final Category – U.S. States
Which U.S. state was named for one of the Channel Islands, where the future King Charles II of England spent time in exile during the English Civil War of the 1640s?
Brad got this one right away, but so did enough teams ahead of us. Tiebreaker for the top three teams was how many years apart were Indiana and Montana admitted to the union? Our guess would have been just three years off. Maybe we’ll get to do a tiebreaker NEXT time! Now that will be exciting! Well, that’s all folks! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Jessica Simpson! Or not! Might be more interesting! Our next trivia outing will be our MTL finals on Saturday, where we will battle it out with about 39 or so other teams from Southeast Michigan for cash prizes. A “special” trivia outing is planned for Sunday, more about that later! Again, Go Pods!
OK, here’s your “Spotlight” answers. Top picture, Michael Keaton (Batman), and Mark Ruffalo (Incredible Hulk). Bottom picture, from left to right – Liev Schreiber, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and on the far right is Billy Crudup, who played Doctor Manhattan in “The Watchmen.” You might not recognize him with clothing on, lol…
