Around the beginning of this year, I made a short list of recreation goals for the year, which you can read here:

Next weekend, I’ll be checking off at least a couple of those line items!

I’ll be camping in a place I’ve never camped before, and camping during a lunar event! ππ π
Completing a book while on a camping trip was also on the list. I checked out a copy of A River Runs Through It, and also have an unfinished copy of Walden from a previous trip. I’ll bring both of those books with me!
This is supposed to be a “makeup trip.” We were supposed to do a cabin trip last Halloween (2025), but I ended up spending the night in a local emergency room π³
Getting on the phone while I was in the ICU to cancel the trip with a DNR rep was very, very sad!
It’s fitting that we’re rescheduling this coming weekend, because…
It’s Walpurgis Night April 30! Or Beltane, or May Day (whatever you want to call it). It’s not widely celebrated in the U.S., but it’s a…creepy holiday! Basically a way to say “Fu** you, winter, begone! Hello, spring!”
Bonfires are pretty much… required. Masks optional.
What better excuse to do a bonfire than a… camping trip?

I’m excited about staying in a cabin we’ve never rented before. It’s located near Grayling, MI and is close to a little fishing lake.
Accomodations will be rustic – non-electric, vault outdoor toilet, propane heat, firepit and picnic table outside. Bunk beds.
This will be my first alcohol free camping trip in a…long, long time. I’m almost 180 days sober now.
I’m bringing a fun assortment of non-alcoholic drinks! This has been a great excuse to try new and different things to drink! π»
