Trivia Recap – Game # 905 – April 28, 2026 – Red Rock Barbecue – Sporcle Events – Ypsilanti, MI

My regular trivia “pardner” Mike needed the night off from trivia, so…

Brad and I warmed up the bench at Red Rock Barbecue in his absence!

And that’s about all that we did 😂

No prizes for the third week in a row. This is always how we roll with hot streaks – ya gotta ride out the lows, too!

Here were our questions:

Game One/Round One

1 Assistants – What virtual assistant was first used with the Amazon Echo brand of smart speakers that was introduced in 2014?

2 Time Zones – The two westernmost time zones in Russia are abbreviated KALT and MSK, each of which has a full name referencing a city. Name one of those two cities.

NERD POINT: Name both cities

Missed the nerd point.

3 Government – What term for a form of government in which power rests with a small number of people gets its O name from the Geek meaning “few” and “command?”

4 Predictions – What type of animal was Paul, who received attention for correctly predicting several outcomes of matches at the 20210 FIFA (men’s) World Cup?

NERD POINT: What country won this tournament?

Got both of these correct.

Mystery Round One

This was a visual round for us, but I don’t have the images or the URL for them. So this will be a “words” question. Which I wrote myself with the aid of google searches (I DO NOT HAVE AI WRITING THESE SILLY RECAPS FOR ME I SWEAR TO WHATEVER GOD YOU WORSHIP).

Identify the bands or artists nominated for the 2026 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame based on the following descriptions:

Pretentious f—s – or tortured artists? You decide!

M1 In addition to being well-known for his work as the frontman for a band formerly led by Peter Gabriel, he also had film credits as an actor in Buster (1988) and Hook (1991) as well as composer credits for Tarzan and Brother Bear.

M2 Manchester based band whose members root for Manchester City rather than the more popular Manchester United whose members include a pair of brothers well known for their violent on-stage antics involving shouting and punching, among other things. Oh yes and songs including Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, among others.

M3 English band formed in 1982 known for smooth jazz baby-making hits including Smooth Operator and the Sweetest Taboo

M4 Staten Island based band formed in 1992 featuring members named Old Dirty Bastard and Ghostface (among others) whom are clearly not a band to be f—ed with, if their own claims are to believed.

Round Two

5 Movie Sequels – What word completes the title of a 1998 sequal film about a football-playing dog name Buddy – Air Bud: Golden BLANK?

NERD POINT: A 2003 volleyball-themed sequel film in the Air Bud series has what two-word subtitle?

Missed nerd point.

6 Bones – What leg bone, the third-longest in the human body on average, takes its six-letter name from the Latin word for a clasp or a brooch?

NERD POINT: Within two, how many seasons of Jeopardy! have aired as of April 2026, including the current season?

Missed nerd point – shoulda gone with first guess! 😢

8 Dances – In October, 2025, content creator Desean Hawk Logan-Russell popularized what nautical-themed dance that involves holding one’s nose closed with one hand and waving the other hand back and forth in front of one’s body? Miss. Mike would have known this (yeah that surprised me too, but I showed him this q after the game l, and yes, he really knew a dance question answer).

Mystery Round Two

Answer the questions about events that took place on this day in history (April 28)

M1 On this day in 1789, Fletcher Christian and nearly two dozen others seized control of what ship from Captain William Bligh for reasons that are still uncertain?

M2 On this day in 1923, what notable stadium known at the time as Empire Stadium opened in London? It was demolished in 2003 and replaced by a new stadium of the same name.

M3 On this day in 1967, what boxer refuse induction into the US Army and was stripped of his WBA heavyweight title?

M4 On this day in 2025, Beyonce kicked off her most recent world tour, named for what Grammy-winning album released the year before?

Missed #4.

We were in third place out of eight teams going into the final with 48 points behind second place Dangerous Nights, tied with Are we not doing phrasing anymore, 49, and Cap tain Geech and the shrimp Shack Shooters were in first with 51.

We wagered six points on the final category of…

Postage

In the late 19th century, what world leader became the first woman to appear on a US stamp> The stamp commemorated an event that took place roughly 400 years before the stamp was issued.

Three teams got this correct. Captain Geech stayed in first, phrasing moved to second and 212 moved up to third. We moved down to fourth, tied with Party Sharks.

Game Two/Round Three

9 Video Games – What name fills the blank in all of the following video game subtitles – The Adventure of BLANK, A BLANK to the Past and BLANK’s Awakening?

10 Lit Names – What traditional birthstone is the name of Hester Prynne’s daughter in the 1850 novel The Scarlet Letter?

NERD POINT: Who wrote the Scarlet Letter? Shouldn’t the first part of this have been the nerd point part? We did get both correct, but still it seemed flip flopped.

11 Roads – In 1986, Life magazine bestowed the nickname “The Loneliest Road in America” on a stretch of US Route 50 that runs through what western state?

12 Future Films – What 2006 dystopian film starring Clive Owen and Julianne Moore is set in 2027, when two decades of human infertility have left civilization on the brink of collapse?

Double miss.

Mystery Round Three

Four of the first 50 elements on the periodic table have two-letter symbols with a different starting letter from that of the element’s name in English. Name those four elements, all of which have lower atomic numbers than antimony (Sb).

Round Four

13 TV Themes – Audio – fictional bands

Sorry, not trying to recreate this…

14 Golf – Before a schedule change in 2019, which of the four major championships in men’s golf was referred to as Glory’s Last Stand and the Season’s Final Major?

NERD POINT: In 2026 this tournament wil be held at a course near what major city?

Missed nerd point.

15 What ten-letter A word refers to the word, phrase or clause that a pronoun replaces? Miss…for big. Ouch.

16 Soundtracks – What song did Post Malone record for the film Spider-Man – Into the Spiderverse?

NERD POINT: With what US capital city does Post Malone share his real first name?

Double miss. Not…our…game!

Mystery Round Four –

This was all audio. I’m not…recreating this as a words question. Sorry! It was based on fictional bands.

We were in fifth with 30 points going into the final behind Geech who had 41, phrasing who had 42, party sharks who had 44 and dangerous nights who had 47.

Final Category – Series Finales

Of the ten most-watched series finales in the US, two are from TV shows that originally aired on ABC. Name one of these two shows, one of which is a drama series that aired its finale in 1987, the other is a sitcom that aired its finale in 1999.

Dangerous Nights finished second and temporarily deafened me with their cheering, which was nearly as loud as a 1976 Who concert (you old school Guinness Book of World Records aficionados will get this joke)! Anyone else read this book when they were just learning to read? I’ll never unsee the guy with dozens of cigarettes in his mouth or the lady with the really long fingernails (a freak show on paper that book was)!

We’re done with trivial pursuits for the week. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Austin Malone!
