Player Profile: Brad N.

We recently learned that one of our veteran trivia players, Brad N., is becoming a local celebrity of sorts! He said that one more than one occasion, while walking the corridors of University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI, he had random people (none of whom he recognized) greeting him by saying “Go Pods.” Those of you in the pub trivia “know,” may recognize this as our catchphrase. And you may have heard it while playing trivia games. Anyway…that said, we thought we would take this opportunity to tell you a bit about our “celebrity” trivia player and dear friend.
The main thing you need to know about Brad is this: he really, really loves dogs. He owns and breeds Scottish Deerhounds, a dog breed you may – or may not – have seen in the Oscar-winning film “Out of Africa,” and the more recent “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” The same dog breed was also named best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2011.
What he loves almost as much as his dogs – Jane, Balor, Kes and Tambourine – is Halloween and cosplay (as you can see by this picture). He dresses up every Halloween, and also for the annual Michigan Renaissance Festival. On St. Patrick’s Day, he transforms into a leprechaun. He gets tons of free drinks this way.
Brad has been one of our “founding” trivia players since 2012. When we were deciding whether we wanted to commit to the whole pub trivia thing, we tested each other by playing “Trivial Pursuit.” The rest is history. Today, Brad is easily the overall MVP on our team (though he will vehemently deny this if you say it to him). But that’s how Brad rolls, he possesses not an ounce of egotism or bravado. He is just really, really good at what he does. He is one of most loyal and dependable “core” players, and has played with us in nearly every game and in every tournament game. He is kind of our “elder statesman,” though not technically the oldest of our players. But that’s what you need on some of the trivia questions, whether the topic is original Dorito flavors (which he remembers eating as a kid), or questions about the ABA. We are very glad to have Brad as part of our team, and we really would not even have a team without him. We mean this sincerely. Go Pods!
