Trivia Recap – July 22, 2026 – My Music Quiz – My Trivia Live – New Jester’s – Flint, MI

We don’t know exactly who George was, but he died recently – and was obviously very important in the Flint social scene! 😢

In other recent and less important news in the  Flint social scene, a group of four women – three from Canton, one from Ypsilanti – paid a visit to Flint Jester’s on a recent Wednesday night for its My Trivia Live branded music trivia scene.

All of us have become regulars in the Sporcle Events music quiz scene Monday nights in Ypsi because it’s the closest music trivia scene we have at the moment. So when we decided to take an hour-ish long drive to Flint for its music trivia scene, you KNOW that was a special occasion! We even battled a bit of rush hour traffic on our way there.

We’ve visited this place a few times in the past, starting in June, 2025, when “solo singer” Kim decided that since she was in the area anyway – and had nothing better to do – that she’d visit Jester’s for its music trivia night by herself. She wound up finishing in second place overall – all by her bad self!

After that, she decided to start asking her music quiz compadres to join her for these games.

Jester’s definitely has a “night club” vibe to it, with its dim lighting, neon lighting, and an actual stage for late night entertainment. It also has a bit of a “biker” vibe to it, though we did not see any motorcycles in the parking lot. What we did see was a mural dedicated to someone named “Steve” who had passed away.

There is motorcycle parking next to this mural.

Whatever its identity is now, business was definitely hopping on this Wednesday night! Though not everyone was there for the music trivia, there were people socializing at the bar itself, and quite a few people playing pool over on the other side.

We managed to kick some butt in this game! Right up until that pesky final question anyway. 😖 Don’t you just hate it when you know a song but don’t know something else essential about it? Like its title, for instance? 😁

Maybe it was just our turn not to win any prizes. We have had some good luck winning prizes here on our previous infrequent visits! We recently won a first place prize over Thanksgiving break in 2025.

Here’s a sampling of some of our questions (no answers, do your best):

In the category of…

How many siblings sang with Michael Jackson on the 1969 hit song “ABC?”

Who sang the 1969 song “Spirit in the Sky?”

What type of moon was rising in a 1969 hit song by Creedence Clearwater Revival?

Moving on to the category of women in song:

What was the parenthetical title of Annie’s Song by John Denver? Kim’s absolute favorite artist 🤣

This was a nope for us.

What 1975 song includes the lyrics “I can feel you watching…in the night?”  This one is abbreviated.

The Huddie Ledbetter song “Black Betty” was covered by what band in 1975?

In the “Change it Up” category, all answers would involve the word “change” – or be about songs with that word in the title.

What “No Rain” band recorded a song called “Change” in 1992?

The Tupac song “Changes” includes a sample from the 1986 song “The Way it is” by what band?

For our halftime round, we were asked about song synonyms. Given the release years, and synonyms for their song titles, we had to name the song.

H1 – Commodores,1977, unchallenging

H2 Chainsmokers, 2016, near

H3 Kool and the Gang, 1980, festival

H4 Stevie Wonder, 1972, myth

Got all of these for 10 points.

Next, we were quizzed about songs featuring people who sang with Sir Elton John:

What song did Elton John sing with Dua Lipa in 2021? Miss.

What English songstress sang with Elton John on “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart?”

Who did Elton John sing with at the 1985 Live Aid concert with on the song “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me?”

Next up, songs by guys named John:

Who sang “R.O.C.K. in the USA?”

Who sang the song “Center Field?” They did not actually ask this question in this way, but I didn’t know what song by him that they actually played. So here we are!

Who married model Chrissy Teigen and wrote the song “All of Me” about her?

In the last regular round category of “Girl, Please,” we answered songs about…girls.

Who recorded both the 1987 album and song “Girls, Girls Girls?”

Who recorded the 1986 hip-hop song “Girls?”

What band did Cardi B record a song with in 2018 (I do not know what song they played)?

We were in first with 70 points playing under the name Hazy Shade of Summer heading into the final. Here for the Beer was right behind us with 65, Monkeys were behind them with 63, Lions were behind them with 59, and two other teams whose names I can’t read in my sloppy notes were behind them with 57 and 50 points respectivey. Oh yes, CW was my abbreviation for Combat Wombats, they had 50 points.

Final Category – Songs on Screen

Originally recorded by the Statler Brothers in the 1960s and covered by countless others including Nancy Sinatra Jr. and the Muppets, what song does Bruce Willis sing the lyrics “Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo” in a scene from Pulp Fiction?

It took us a minute to think of the song that he was singing, there was just one problem…we didn’t know the actual title, so we put in a guess for the title.

Monkeys, Lions and Here for the beer finished in the top three.

Unsure when we’ll be back here again, but we’ll be back! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, John Denver!
