Another Sporcle Events Season is “In the Books”

We’ve completed yet another Sporcle Events trivia season!

We finished first in the venue tournament at Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery for music quiz and in third place overall. We trailed the second place team Don’t Forget to Strip Your Bartender by just two league points!

It’s all our fault for having missed the second to last game! Yes competition was really that tight among the three league teams in contention.

At our second venue, Red Rock Barbecue, we finished third for the season as well, and also “technically” first at the venue tournament, since the only team that beat us – by three points – was a non league team. So…not too bad, really 😁

I’ve already lined up four players for the Globe Game on Father’s Day weekend. I was hoping that I’d actually have a fifth person this time, but I’m happy that we actually have four.

We started the music quiz season about halfway through January, right when my state – Michigan – was in the midst of a unusually brutally cold winter. The first two games of the season at our spot were cancelled, so we started two weeks late.

We remained in second place throughout most of the season, behind the Party Sharks team (the one that always bring their baby girl to the bar). It’s all good – she’s normally very quiet, and has become kind of a team mascot.

We started playing regularly at Red Rock Barbecue on St. Patrick’s Day, which is right around when it just started thawing out again in Michigan. We grew to love the place for a variety of reasons –  cheap beer (it’s on happy hour special all day Tuesdays, including hop waters and NA and zero ABV beers and ciders), it’s close to home, and most importantly, our buddy Brad can easily get to games without a car!

We won $130 over the season there. We really hope that more teams show up to play here, we really think that it could use some more competition!

We also played a handful of games at McShane’s Pub, which is in the competing My Trivia Live league. We may be playing there more now that the Sporcle season has come to a close.

Honestly, I haven’t made any real “plans” for trivia after the Globe Games. The music quiz games Mondays will continue, I don’t know anything certain beyond that.

I’m sure we’ll continue to at least occasionally play Tuesdays at Red Rock, too. Though unfortunately my work schedules have changed over the past month and Tuesdays haven’t been as good for going out for trivia. ☹️

I’m just glad that 2026 has largely been without the drama that we experienced in the past couple of years. Teams wrongfully accusing us of cheating (perish THAT thought), recruiting a new player who didn’t end up working out, etc.

There was a new team Monday night that amazingly nailed a tiebreaker question though! I did talk to the host about that after the game, so hopefully both he and I will keep an eye on that in future games.

I really, really wish Sporcle would do tiebreakers in a  more honest fashion. Have one player form each team go up to the host stand – with their phones – and answer the question in front of the host. Even if they have to type it on the phone, it’s still very transparent. This is how MTL does it (though they do not submit answers via phones in that league).

I will not hesitate to publicly call out teams that appear to be cheating! I’ve done it before (Ryan and the Ladies, Twinkle Toes) and I’ll do it again!

Keep it clean, kids!

On that self-righteous note, I think this is a good place to end this pointless blog! 🤣
