We bought in for a recent virtual trivia game on yet another rainy, chilly Friday night…Here were our questions:
Round One –
1 Game Shows – What seven-letter slang term for a detective is also used for contestants on the game show Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?
2 Magazines – Who co-founded George magazine in 1995, along with Michael Berman?
NERD POINT: What model appeared on the magazine’s first cover?
3 Percussion – What type of cymbal, commonly used as part of a drum kit, consists of two cymbals on a stand that can be operated with a pedal?
4 Charts – to be read at a distance of how many feet—5, 10, 20, or 50?
Mystery Round One –
The correct answer to each clue is a science-related term beginning with the letter “V.”
M1. Term that comprises all animals with a backbone
M2. The speed of something in a given direction
M3. Last name of the Italian physicist and chemist named Alessandro who was a pioneer of electricity and power
M4. The measurement of a fluid’s resistance to shear stress or flow
Round Two –
5 College Football – In 2010, what USC running back voluntarily forfeited his Heisman Trophy five years after winning, due to having received illegal benefits in college? Miss.
6 Novels – What novel by Stephen King has a title character that is a 1958 Plymouth Fury?
7 Identities – What is the alter ego of Don Diego de la Vega, a fictional character who has appeared in literature, films, and television? My trivia pardner Mike made the comment, “Hey, maybe this guy inspired Batman!” Think about it…they’re both masked crusaders, they both have lots of money, they have a way with the ladies, they fight injustice…hmmm!
8 Social Media – In April 2020, Facebook unveiled a reaction emoji depicting a smiling character hugging a heart, which is intended to show what emotion? I have never, ever used this emoji and never, ever will. Unless my finger slips and it happens by accident. It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just…too cutesy for my sensibilities.
Mystery Round Two –
Give the first and last names of the people described by the following clues, all of whom have the initials “T.C.”
M1. Actor who has played Cheeseburger Eddy, President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho, and Hale Caesar on film
M2. Author whose works are considered primarily thrillers including Patriot Games and The Sum of All Fears
M3. Musician whose biggest hits are “Fast Car” and “Give Me One Reason”
M4. Inaugural member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame who was nicknamed “The Georgia Peach”
We were in fourth going into the final with…52 points? I think? I don’t have my notes on me as I type this.
Final – TV Characters
What TV series that debuted in 1989 has main characters with the last names Quinn, Parker, Holden, and Ellerbee, among others?
We incorrectly guessed Murphy Brown. lots of other teams missed this, too.
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, David Hasselhoff!
