Sorry, no second mystery round in this recap…
It’s always a sign that the ‘Pods are going to have a good trivia game when we get questions about Cat Stevens songs, Star Wars (the OG franchise from the ’70s-’80s, not the new Mickey Mouse movies or those horrible, horrible prequels) and…DNA? We did pretty well in this game, missing only questions about golf (bleah) and…no other questions! We finished in third behind teams who probably knew more about golf than us.
Here were our questions:
Round One –
1 Companies – OtterBox is a Colorado-based company that primarily makes what type of accessory for mobile devices? My trivia pardner Mike said, “How are you so sure on this one?” Me? “I used to visit lots of web sites selling outdoor gear.”
2 Movie Titles – What subtitle was retroactively given to the 1977 film that was the highest grossing film at the domestic box office, after more films in the franchise were released?
3 Golf – Zach Johnson and Luke Donald are the captains of their respective teams for what golf event set to be played in the fall of 2023?
NERD POINT: This event is scheduled to be played in what European country?
Nope and nope…missed this and the bonus.
This man (pictured below) will be asked about in a bit…
4 Hit Songs – Which day of the week is in the title of a song that was a Billboard top 10 hit for Sam Cooke in 1963 and for Cat Stevens in 1974? Mike said he’d never heard the song before, so of course I had to sing it – though I know Cat Stevens’ version a bit better than Sam Cooke’s (my mom was a huge fan in the 1970s and she passed it on to me, not just umbilically). Then I remembered that Sam Cooke had an odd death. Oh the trivia rabbit holes you wander into during a game (amirite)?
Mystery One –
For each given U.S. city and state, name the next state that a person would enter if traveling due west.
1. Boise, Idaho
2. Boston, Massachusetts
3. Cheyenne, Wyoming
4. Dover, Delaware
Got all of these.
5 Treaties – The peace treaty signed in January 1973, ending the Vietnam War, was signed in what European capital city?
6 Sitcoms – On a sitcom that aired on NBC from 2006-2013, actors Michael Sheen, Matt Damon, Jason Sudeikis, and James Marsden all played different boyfriends of what character? FB host clue.
7 Books – In a 1970 book by E.B. White, what title animal overcomes his lack of voice by learning to play a trumpet in order to impress a potential mate? Anyone else ever heard these during their mating season? It’s glorious!
8 Science – The bacterium Clostridium tetani is closely associated with an infection known by what name?
We were in third with 51 points going into the final.
Final Category – DNA
Of the four main components of DNA, which comes first alphabetically?
Got this, so did the two teams ahead of us.
Unsure when we’re playing virtually again, but we “tentatively” plan to play a real-live game next Wednesday! Weather permitting! My work schedule has been lovingly rearranged by my supervisor for the occasion (I did not tell her I needed to switch my days off so that I could go to a trivia game). The things you do for the love of the game! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Yusuf Islam!
