Sometimes on a Saturday night when it’s the end of your work week you want to go “out” and enjoy some drinks (especially with all of the great weather we’ve been having in Michigan lately) – but there are other times when just changing into your “jammie pants” and your comfiest clothes – and staying in for virtual trivia – and watching V For Vendetta is what you’d REALLY rather do!
We failed yet again on the final question, but forgive us – it was about sportsball announcers! To our credit, we did name two actual sports announcers, but just not the right ones.
Scene from Better Off Dead and quote – “Two brothers… One speaks no English, the other learned English from watching “The Wide World of Sports.” So you tell me… Which is better, speaking no English at all, or speaking Howard Cosell?”
Yes, as a spoiler to the final question, Howard Cosell was one of our guesses (and it was incorrect).
Here were our other game questions:
Round One –
1 Mascots – The longtime mascot for Toys “R” Us, his wife Gigi, his son Junior, and his daughter Baby Gee are what kind of animal? What Gen X kid didn’t love this store?
2 Celebrations – In what upcoming year will the United States celebrate the sestercentennial of its independence?
3 Conditions – What is the eight-letter term for a clouding of the lens of the eye, which is among the leading causes of vision impairment? We picked the wrong visual impairment, miss.
4 Cocktails – According to the International Bartenders Association, a Gin Fizz is made with gin, soda water, syrup, and what fruit juice?
NERD POINT: A Green Fizz is a variation that adds what ingredient?
We made right guess for the main question, missed the bonus.
Mystery One –
We missed #4, though we joked that the author we put and the actual correct author were essentially the same person…
Round Two –
5 Seinfeld – In the Seinfeld episode titled “The Little Kicks”, which character’s dancing is described as “a full-body dry heave set to music”?
6 What Native American warrior is being memorialized in a mountain monument currently under construction in South Dakota, which, if completed, would become one of the world’s largest sculptures?
7 Rivers – At more than 3,000 miles long, the Paraná River is the second longest river on which of the seven continents?
8 Prisons – What hotel-related nickname was given to the Hoa Lo Prison during the Vietnam war?
Mystery Two –
Answer the questions about the lyrics to the song “Puff, the Magic Dragon.”
1. Puff the Magic Dragon frolicked in the mist of what season?
2. Along with strings and “other fancy stuff,” Jackie Paper brought Puff what kind of wax?
3. When “Puff roared out his name,” pirate ships lowered what?
4. Without having Jackie Paper around, Puff “slipped into” what location?
Got all of these correct.
Final Category – TV Broadcasters –
From 1970-2015, there were only four regular play-by-play announcers for Monday Night Football.
Name two of those four announcers.
Nope and nope…
One of these days…one of these days…we’ll get a final question correct!
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Ernest Hemingway!
