We managed to finish in second in a very competitive virtual Friday night trivia game, thanks to a favorable question set! We usually feel lucky to finish in the top five of a Friday night “Epic” hosted joint!
Here were our questions:
1 Artwork – The nine scenes at the center of the Sistine Chapel ceiling are taken from which book of the Bible?
2 1970s Movies – What real-life person is played by George Hamilton in a 1971 film that includes the line, “That jump you’re going to make is impossible, but I already have my tickets because I want to see you splatter?”
3 Disney – Walt Disney World in Orlando opened to the public first: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, EPCOT Center, Pirates Of The Caribbean or Space Mountain? Made right guess here, and I have a “story” about why I know exactly when EPCOT was built…which was the year after I was there (and I probably would have loved EPCOT as a geeky kid)!
4 Competitions – For more than 20 years, the Dairyland Surf Classic, the largest lake surfing competition in the world, was held on which of the Great Lakes? Picked the wrong Great Lake, whoops…
Mystery One – Visual
Round Two
5 Name one of the three countries that have a larger Portuguese-speaking population than Portugal.
NERD POINT: Name two of three. We knew that one of them was one of the “twins” in Africa (my name for countries similar and usually next to each other). We decided one of those twins was too German, so thankfully we picked the right one! Got the bonus point, which typically eludes us…
5 Science – What Scottish engineer adopted the term “horsepower” to compare the output of steam engines to the power of draft horses? This was one of those, “When they reveal the answer, we’re gonna be like, d’oh!” Yup…miss.
Mystery Two (see picture)
We were in third going into the final with 50 points.
Final Category – Tennis
Ugh! We wanted to go zero, but decided to be renegades…
The four tennis players with at least 14 Grand Slam titles in men’s singles since 1990 are from four different countries.
Name three of those four countries.
Made right guesses! And there I was hoping it would be about ’80s tennis, which I sort of used to “follow.” We moved up to second. We’ll take that!
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Queen Victoria!
