What If…

What if…every woman of childbearing age on this planet – who has a choice in the matter to do so – abstained from sex for the next 30 days?

That’s a question that’s been on my mind ever since the historic June 24 overturning of Roe Vs. Wade, which takes federal protections for abortion services away and gives them back to the states. Which, since so many states have laws on the books against this, could be devastating for millions of women in this country. My state of Michigan has laws on the books dating back to the 1930s that could make abortion illegal again.

Yes, I am pro-choice. Does this mean I’m “Pro Abortion?” No. It just means I believe a legal, safe option for abortion should be available to all women. Every unwanted pregnancy has a story, and not everyone wants to hear those stories. Whether that be a girl whom was raped by a family member, a woman was raped by a man, a scared teenage girl whose boyfriend’s condom broke, or a woman who learned that her unborn baby won’t survive pregnancy – and neither might the mother, or just a woman who isn’t ready to be a mother. Women on both sides of the choice coin have had to use abortion services, even ones who get abortions at one clinic – then protest at that clinic the following week. The stories are out there…

If abortion becomes illegal, the abortions won’t stop – they will just stop being safe. That is a fact.

I fear for the future of this country…

In other more positive news, however, I am hearing that inquiries about vasectomies have drastically increased. Imagine that – a procedure that is safe, legal, available virtually everywhere and covered by most insurance companies. Fucking imagine that…

And this is all I have to say about this matter for now.
