Trivia Recap – Game # 679 – May 23, 2022 – Virtual Sporcle “Pub Quiz” Format

We missed questions about video games, Internet chefs, capitals starting containing the letter B and two current events mystery questions in a recent virtual pub trivia game. We did end up getting the final correct about high-grossing Jennifer Aniston films. Speaking of Jennifer Aniston, did you know that had she not agreed to be in the 1999 dark comedy film Office Space, the movie might not have even been made? And do you want to even be in a universe where this movie doesn’t exist (I know I don’t)!

A little meme I made a while back…

Here were our questions:

1 TV Hosts – After hosting a show that was partially self-titled for over nine years, who succeeded David Letterman as host of The Late Show? Mike and I bickered a bit, but yes, he turned out to be right…got this for low.

2 Games – Name two of the three playable characters in the 1992 arcade video game Mortal Kombat who have names beginning with “S.”

NERD POINT: Name all three.

Miss.

3 1990s Songs – “Hook,” and “But Anyway” are two of the highest charting songs in the 1990s by what American band?

4 Books – Who is the title character in a series of novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery that includes books with titles ending in “of Avonlea,” “of the Island,” and “of Windy Poplars”? This person was featured on an episode of “Murdoch Mysteries,” which is mostly how I knew this (but not totally).

Mystery Round One – Visual

We missed #1, #3, and #4. Missing #3 was totally our bad, the city we put isn’t even a capital #rookietriviamistake

Round Two

5 Chefs – What Indian American chef and TV host has published cookbooks titled Easy Exotic and Tangy, Tart, Hot and Sweet, as well as a reference guide titled The Encyclopedia of Spices and Herbs? Nope.

6 Actors – The 2018 film Searching, starring whom, is considered to be the first mainstream Hollywood thriller headlined by an Asian American actor? Thank you FB host clues. They are still worth looking into before games!

7 Animals – Which of the following animals has a bite more than twice as strong as any of the others?

A) Grizzly bear
B) Hippopotamus
C) Jaguar
D) Nile crocodile

8 In The News – What make and model of vehicle is closely associated with a low-speed police pursuit that took place on June 17, 1994?

Mystery Round Two – Current Events

Answer the questions about events that have taken place recently.

M1. What circus that closed in 2017 announced that it would return in 2023 without animal acts?

M2. What law, abbreviated DPA, was invoked by President Biden in response to the U.S. baby formula shortage?

M3. What major golf tournament was played at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma?

M4. What musical was inspired by the family of Rosmarie Trapp, who passed away at the age of 93 on May 13?

Missed #3.

Jennifer Aniston is credited in six films released since 2000 that grossed at least $100 million at the domestic box office.

Name three of those six films, which grossed more than He’s Just Not That Into You.

Took a bit of thinking, but got this. Wound up finishing in fifth.

Tonight will be our “Virtual Birthday Trivia Spectacular” for my friend Michelle. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Bruce Almighty!
