We’re having absolutely lovely weather in my area of Southeast Michigan right now. It’s in the ’70s, it’s breezy and not “too” sunny. I’m enjoying my day off by (drum roll) – listening to Lenny Kravitz! It’s definitely a throwback to my college days….Michelle, my best friend at the time, “turned me on” to Lenny Kravitz by giving me a tape copy of Let Love Rule that she’d made herself (this was a common thing for us Gen-X teens to to do – we were masters and mistresses of the “mix tape.”) This, by proxy, made us masters and mistresses of solid state stereo technology as well! This may explain why I still kind of drool a bit when I see switches and knobs (the 1974 Francis Ford Coppola movie The Conversation might as well be soft core porn for people who are turned on by solid state technology, LOL)… But let’s get back to Mr. Kravitz, shall we?
Kravitz’ highest charting hits are It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over, which hit #2 in 1991, and Again, which hit #4 in 2000. If you’re reading this blog, this means you’re probably into trivia, so you probably already know that Kravitz’ mother, Roxie Roker, was on The Jeffersons, right? And you also knew he was married to Lisa Bonet, AKA Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show?
Later, I would buy my own CD version of Let Love Rule, and even later than that, my own copies of Mama Said and Circus. Hell, I even bought the soundtrack for Reality Bites, just BECAUSE a new Lenny track was on it.
Even if you don’t want to play this as a “soundtrack” to a sleazy, breezy summer afternoon, this album will DEFINITELY help provide a “soundtrack” for just about any other “activity” you can imagine! Let’s see – gardening, house cleaning, blogging, weed smoking and…
Well, duh… do I have to spell it out for you? Oh, all right… S-E-X! This was pure baby making music for the Gen X generation 😉 Perhaps there are people out there who were conceived while their future parents got their “freak” on while listening to Lenny Kravitz! Maybe their future parents’ college roommates always KNEW when they were going to get busy when they started hearing the opening chords of Kravitz’ Sittin’ On Top Of the World… coming from the bedroom.
Well? What are you waiting for? Go out and do some “gardening” – like right now – and listen to this album! 🙂
