Looks Like I Picked The Wrong Week to Quit Sniffing Glue! Day One – 2019 “Fitness Adventures”

Today I set out to check off one of the “line items” of my New Year’s Resolutions – and that is to take AT LEAST a 30 minute walk every day. More if I’m feeling more “perky.” Ah, let’s say some days are better than others!

i'mnotperky

I was determined! I got home from work today, changed into some more “outdoorsy” clothes (good thing…more about that later), inhaled a cinnamon applesauce pouch for just the right energy boost, and drank a glass of water. I grabbed my phone, my mp3 player, and I was good to go!

I set out at approximately 11:39 a.m. and arrived home about 12:15 p.m. Google maps tells me that my route is approximately a one-mile trip (one way). So I completed a two mile walk in about 36 minutes. Not bad – especially since it was after a shift of being on my feet and moving around ‘n stuff! I’m off work Tuesday, so maybe if weather cooperates, I’ll shoot for a 3-4 mile walk.

Starting out today, I realized…”Holy shit, it’s WINDY!” It was a good thing I changed out of my “work pants” and into the fleece-lined leggings I bought a couple of months ago. I gotta say…they were put to the test in the 17 mile per hour winds! And my legs didn’t feel ANY of that chill! Well played, leggings! Well played! Definitely a worthwhile investment!  Being able to wear them outside on camping trips without freezing my ass off is EXACTLY why I bought them. My face on the other hand? It felt all of that wind! Alas, I steeled myself, told myself I was doing this for the “greater good…” I headed toward a road named “Sweet,” which has speed bumps on it – and a nice mixture of housing on larger lots. The road never gets enough traffic to be annoying (except during “rush hour”),  which made it ideal for a walk.

Weather conditions on today’s walk

My “tunes” were absolutely essential today! I wanted to walk at a very brisk pace, and I set my music player on “shuffle.” I don’t like “playlists” – surprises are MUCH more fun!  Here’s my track list, as far as I can remember it (the tracks I skipped have been omitted):

  1. Subculture, New Order
  2. Spooky (Magimix), New Order (how odd that my music player picked two New Order tracks in a row…nicely done! Perfect “walking” tunes…
  3. We Are Family, Sly and the Family Stone
  4. Another Brick in the Wall (Part 1), Pink Floyd
  5. Rainy Day Women #12 and #35, Bob Dylan (aka the “Everybody Must Get Stoned” song)
  6. Head Over Heels, The Go-Gos
  7. Wild World, Cat Stevens
  8. It’s So Easy, Guns ‘n Roses

Nice cross section of stuff from the 1960s-1990s! The oldest track on this list is Rainy Day Women #12 and #35 (1966) and the “newest” is Spooky (Magimix) (1993).  You can take the girl out of the marching band – but you can’t take the ingrained instinct to “get into step” with music out of the girl! That’s exactly what I did today – I was actually surprised to learn that the Bob Dylan song is such a good “walking song.” Nice tambourine beats, harmonica, good tempo…plus, now that weed’s legal in my state? Well, let’s just say that what I’m about to write…sounds better coming out of Bob Dylan…

Well, they’ll stone you when you’re walking on the street
They’ll stone you when you’re tryin’ to keep your seat
They’ll stone you when you’re walkin’ on the floor
They’ll stone you when you’re walkin’ to the door
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

And thus concludes day one of my 2019 “Fitness Adventures!” It felt good to get it out of the way right when I got home, so I wouldn’t get tempted to “get lazy.” Speaking of that… 🙂
