I just heard a rumor from one of my “field correspondents ” at the Corner Brewery. Venue tournaments may become a thing of the past. I am hearing that state tournaments are going to happen along with “wild card” tournaments.
Here’s all the info I have so far, based on a conversation between me and Kevin S. (who talked to a trivia host after Wednesday’s game):
Kevin: They are eliminating venue tournaments next season.
Me: Really? How will teams advance?Kevin: 2 21 week seasons. I think your top 12 scores count. Some sort of wild card qualifying tournaments. State finals now. I think venue winners get their choice of wild card tournament. It might be open to non venue winners now. Good news for a tough venue like this. Nothing announced officially, but Tim talked to us afterwards
Me: Interesting…
Kevin: I think the thought was that some players and hosts didn’t understand how the current rules worked. Not that this is less complicatedMe: Mtl (My Trivia Live) takes more than 1 team from some bars based on the number of teams. One team per bar hardly fair at places like corner, haymaker and wolverine
I never thought the “there can be only one” mentality – one team from each bar going to a regional tournament – was completely fair. I don’t know enough about this “new” plan to comment specifically. All I know is my trivia team will still probably find some way to get to money tournaments even if it’s through some kind of “back door!” Hell, we didn’t even expect to qualify for finals THIS time! However, we still wound up playing at least one trivia game every week (sometimes more than one). I’ll be interested to see more information about all of this. I will keep you blog readers in the loop the best I can before anything is “officially” announced from the trivia league. As always, thanks for reading!
