Trivia Recap – Feb. 2, 2017 – Stony Lake Brewing Company (Saline)

A couple of ‘Pods visited Stony Lake Brewing Co. in Saline for a Sporcle Live Host Elyse game Wednesday. We hadn’t visited this place in about a year, and one of the owners remembered us from last time. Where was this trivia scene when we lived in this town 20 years ago? We moved our “team” game from Wednesday to Thursday this week because of a visit from a long-lost ‘Pod, whom, as it turns out, isn’t able to play Thursday after all. 😦 It was still nice getting a change of scenery, both for the eyes and the palate (the Canadian cream ale was quite nice). This place has a very bustling trivia night scene, with people adjoining small tables to booths to accommodate large groups of people – and 15 teams in the mix in game one!. Ours was one of about three small teams sitting at the bar, we had a couple of big point misses in each game and missed both finals. Meh…and the questions, which we completely jacked from Spaceballs 3: Revenge of the Schwartz
Game One
1. US Geography: What is the name of the hook-shaped cape that extends into the Atlantic Ocean from southeastern Massachusetts?
2. Reality TV: What reality TV series aired on VH1 from 2005 until 2010 and had a staff that included drill instructor Harvey Walden IV and Dr. Ian K. Smith? FB clue.
3. MLB Pitchers: What pitcher who made his debut in 1966 and played his final game in 1993 is one of two MLB players to have played in a record 27 seasons? Picked a guy who debuted in 1973 (not a bad guess for us not having any sportsball experts!). Miss.
4. Film Debuts: In what 1988 comedy starring Eddie Murphy did Cuba Gooding Jr. make his feature film debut as a barber shop customer?
5. Breakfast: Cheerios was the third best selling General Mills cereal in 2015. Name one of the two General Mills cereals that outsold Cheerios. Bonus for both. HINT: The answer is not the photo we’re using with this recap!
*Missed the bonus.
6. Compromises: Which US state was admitted to the Union as one of the provisions of the Compromise of 1850? Miss for SEVEN. Ick.
7. Mythology: Which Roman goddess, similar to the Greek goddess Themis, is often depicted wearing a blindfold and holding balance scales and a sword? Overthought this one….miss.
8. Opening Songs: “Hell’s Bells” is the opening track on what studio album by AC/DC?
9. Book Titles: What is the science-related title of a 1915 novella by Franz Kafka in which a man is transformed into a giant insect?
10. Characters: Tenderheart, Love-a-Lot, Birthday, and Cheer are among the characters in which group, who have appeared on television and other media?
Mystery Round: Anagrams – US Vice Presidents of the last 50 years
Having a lazy day today. No standings…thank you for understanding!
Final Category: Movies in Movies
Final Question: The very last film listed alphabetically in the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry actually also appears in a full-length feature film that came out in 1991, decades after the former film. Name both films.
**Wow…tough question. If anyone got this, they’re either experts about the National Film Registry or they’re cheating. This comment is from spaceballs’ recap. I like it !
Nobody in the bar got this. Heard that only two teams got this at Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery. Sporcle With Tim, can you confirm?
Game Two
1. Film Characters: What character is played by Keanu Reeves in the Matrix film series?
2. 2. Annual Events: Primarily commemorated in Great Britain, Guy Fawkes Day is observed annually on what date?
We did not have this question, this was our question…
2. TV Occupations – What was Cliff Clavin’s occupation on “Cheers?”
3. Provinces: The Canadian Prairie provinces are Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and what third province?
4. Sitcoms: On what TV sitcom did actresses Lecy Goranson and Sarah Chalke play the same character at different times during the show’s run? Bonus: what is the name of the character they played? Only knew this because we had a similar question in a game recently and we missed it….(whew)!
5. NFL Games: In a January 2000 NFL playoff game that has become known as the “Music City Miracle,” the Tennessee Titans defeated which AFC East team in dramatic fashion?
6. Codes: How is the letter O transmitted using International Morse Code?
This also was not our question. We had an NHL question, to which I said, aghast – WHAT? Two SPORTS questions in a row? What IS this madness? 🙂 Not everyone is a hockey nut, apparently…text me if the players get into a fight and they’re cute, will ya?
6. NHL All Stars – What division won the recent 2017 NHL all-star game? Atlantic, Central, Metropolitan, or Pacific? Nope…
7. Song Lyrics: What is the title of the Grammy Award winning single that includes the lyrics: “If you liked it then you should’ve put a ring on it?”
Brain farted. No apologies for not knowing about this earworm inducing song. None whatsoever. And did Beyonce hitch her wagon to a star? Survey says?
8. Parodies: Audio clip of a scene from Family Guy in which Peter remarks that something is being “examined by top men.” Had to identify the movie this was a parody of.
9. Companies: Alcoa, Inc., founded in Pittsburgh in the 1880s, is among the world’s leading producers of what metal? Miss.
10. Names: As of the 2000 US census, three of the five most common surnames in the US were how many letters long?
Visual: We only got #2, though I can name two things the #3 woman has been in….
Final Category: The Beatles
Final Question: On the cover of the Beatles album Revolver, there are large drawings of each member of the band. Which Beatle is drawn in full profile?
Miss. Where was my mom when I need her? Or Archie? Oh well, can’t win ’em all. Just was not our night. Back at at tonight, see y’all in the next recap! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Mr. Anderson!
