It’s been a week to week decision as to what day of the week works best for a “general knowledge” trivia game for me.

Since Wednesday happened to work out best this week, we decided to hit up an “OG” trivia spot. Meaning a place that me and my team used to play each week, until I didn’t have as much of a “team” for trivia battles anymore!

The top team at this place on Wednesday nights – You’re Resume Sucks –  typically has eight players or more every week.

So for those smaller, decimated, scrappier teams like ours, other trivia spots might start to look more appealing as places to – you know – actually win some prize money on trivia nights 😁

It’s also occasionally a challenge for us to bring enough players to justify using one of their dinner party sized tables. On this night, we happened to use one of the “extra” folding tables they bring out just for trivia nights and events. It had four chairs sitting around it when we arrived, so I decided that it was, as Goldilocks would say, “just right.” It also did not have a table behind it, which I really liked (I’m kind of an edgelord – or edgelady that way). Why was “edgelord” not flagged for spelling yet “edgelady” was? Such sexism (shakes fist)!

Funny thing was, we actually DID win prize money on this night, which totally shocked us! Only a $5 third place prize in game two, but any prize money is better than none in pub trivia 😊

3 World Geography – The body of water that separates the island of Madagascar from the African mainland is named for what country on the coast?

NERD POINT: Madagascar gained its independence from what country in 1960?

Miss and miss, talked out of a correct guess for the body of water part, picked wrong country for the nerd point.

4 1970s TV – What member of the Rat Pack appears on a season 2 episode of All in the Family that ranks #13 on TV Guide’s list of the “100 Greatest Episodes of All Time?” Host clue, but we’re old, would have known this anyway.

We wound up getting into a weird conversation about whether Carroll O’Connor could be cloned from residual DNA remaining on the chair he used on the series which is displayed in the Smithsonian. We also mused about whether he’d ever farted in the chair –   and whether farts can yield DNA for cloning.

Then came the best question of all – why bother cloning Carroll O’Connor in the first place? 🤔🧐

We also said that producer Norman Lear knew how to be “woke” before it was even a thing.

Funny, I was chatting with someone hours before the game about those giant blue shopping bags the store sells and how f—ing useful they are for all sorts of things. The person I was chatting with was moving her daughter into a dorm room at MSU, and they used a large number of these bags to haul stuff. I’ve used my two of them for returnable cans too many times so they still carry lingering odors of hard seltzer and beer! I really “should” wash them sometime, but…meh! It’s not like I’ll be using them as gift bags or anything 🤔

How did we do? We got the decade within one, missed the nerd point.

7 Actors – Name one of the two films with Matthew McConnaughey in the cast that were nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2014.

NERD POINT: Name both films.

I knew one and Dave knew one. Teamwork makes the dream work!

We were in sixth place going into the final tied with Incarnate Turd with 45 points behind Quiztopher Walken, 46; Dolly’s Partons and Tim’s Curries, 47; Westing Gamers and team discovery channel, 48 (two way tie); Bad Week for Drag Queens and Transvestites, Life on the Sesame Streets, Smells Like Poutine Spirit, 50 (three way tie), and None of Your Stripness, 52.

Interesting that Don’t Forget to Strip Your Bartender was “stripped down” to only five players on this night, but they still managed to kick ass in this game! Go you guys! 👊

Peterson, Tortelli, and Boyd are the last names of four of the six characters who appear on at least 200 episodes of a certain long-running sitcom. Give the last names of the other two characters, which start with the same letter.

We finished third, behind Smells Like Poutine Spirit and You’re Resume Sucks. IKR? A trivia prize on a non-music trivia night at Corner? 😁

Our next trivia battle will be music quiz Monday. We have stayed at the top of the leaderboard charts all season so far (retirement has been good for our fearless leader Kim).
