“Most” of the answers are at the end….
The little bit of luck I had in buying an eight-pack of sparkling water with information on the box that would help me later in a trivia game?
That must’ve canceled out any other luck we’d have in the game!
And I haven’t even tried the stuff yet!

Red Rock has been hopping on Tuesday trivia nights. While the two bartenders running the bar – and the room – are rumored to be cracker Jack bartenders whom Jon Taffer would soundly approve of, it appears that the all day happy hour beers may be what really brings in the crowds. That and the food (we don’t normally eat during games). But it does smell delicious 😋
Even the zero proof hop waters and NA beers are on happy hour pricing too!
As for the game, we finished in third place in both games just shy of the prize zone. Team Dangerous Nights took first in both games, and since we can appreciate the efforts they’ve made over the past few weeks, we say “rah rah” to them! Well played, you guys! 😁
We noticed more nerd points are being added to the games. Interesting development…
Here were our questions:
Game One/Round One
1 Sandwiches – What regional seafood sandwich has two prominent variations – Maine style, which is served cold with mayonnaise, and Connecticut style, which is served hot with butter?
2 State Capitals – What eastern US state capital is the smallest by population and also the only one without a McDonald’s within its city limits? Brad was all over this.
3 Classic Cartoons – “J” is the middle initial of both animal title characters on what cartoon series that aired from 1959-1964?
NERD POINT: What fictional city do these two call home?
Missed the nerd point.
4 Instruments – This was an audio clue, we had to ID the instrument we heard playing. Sadly it was an instrument for which I could identify the type, but not the specific instrument (I haven’t heard this instrument played in a lot of songs). Miss.
Mystery Round One – “L” Words
Name the “L” words in the following acronyms:
M1 COBOL (Common Business Orientated ?)
M2 Emerson, ??? and Palmer
M3 American Civil ??? Union
M4 Anchors and ??? Tethers for Children
Every team missed #4.
Round Two
5 Baseball Players – Name one of the two MLB Players who have won at least four league MVP awards.
NERD POINT: Name both players.
Miss and miss.
6 Directors – The 1999 psychological drama film The Virgin Suicides marked the feature directorial debut of what woman, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director several years later?
7 Names – What woman’s name, derived from the medieval name Theophania is associated with a “problem” in historical fiction, in which period-accurate details seem out of place to modern readers?
Miss. Never heard of this. I don’t think we were “alone” in getting it wrong! 😭
8 Animals – While bovine refers to animals such as cattle or bison, caprine is an adjective referring to what other mammal?
Knowing what weird creature is Mike’s zodiac sign helped out here! 🐐 🐠
Mystery Round Two –
This was a visual round for us, but we didn’t have these on a big screen, I didn’t have the URL, and my screenshots were shite. So this is a “words” question instead.
Name the years based on the following events:
M1 Moon landing
M2 Nixon resignation
M3 FDR’s death
M4 Stock market crash (you know…the really big one)
Got all of these.
My screen shots of the scores were shite too (could not take long screenshots for some reason). We were in first with 44, do not have the other scores, but Dangerous Nights Crew were behind us, then Are we Not doing Phrasing Anymore, I’m Tired Boss and 212.
Final Question Game One – World Flags
What European country uses a vertical tricolor flag that is nearly identical to that of the African country of Chad? The flags of Andorra and Moldova use a similar color scheme but contain their coats of arms, which are absent from the flags of Chad and this European country.
We missed and guessed Belgium.
Dangerous Nights took first (go them, they have been really trying hard the past few games) with 58, and Are We Not Doing Phrasing Anymore took second with 55. They were the only teams getting this correct.
Game Two/Round Three
9 Auto Safety – In 1962, Volvo gave away the patent for one type of what automotive part in an effort to prioritize safety?
NERD POINT: Volvo is headquartered in what country?
10 Government Firsts – In 1977, Patricia R Harris became the first Black woman to serve in a presidential cabinet when Jimmy Carter appointed her secretary of what department established in 1965 that oversees community development assistance, among other things?
11 2010s Movies – In what 2014 film does Chris Pratt voice an everyman named Emmet? We wondered why we forgot about this movie. Oh yeah it was…kinda boring.
12 World Cities – What city in Western Russian that has changed naes multiple times is the northernmost city in the world with a population over one million in the city proper?
NERD POINT: What was this city called during World War II?
Missed the nerd point.
Mystery Round Three – Before and After – Hockey Edition
Normally we’re good at before and after rounds, but this was made us feel like that Eurotrash team that got wolloped by the Sudbury Bulldogs in that brutal no-holds-barred outdoor game in the most recent season of Shoresey!

Now to check for missing teeth…
M1 Big Ten school with six national championships in men’s hockey and nine more in women’s hockey and two word-rhyming nickname for the penalty box
M2 First name of NHL players Bedard and McDavid AND collective name for the Blackhawks, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Canadiens and Rangers
M3 Style of goaltending with an insect-inspired name that was popularized by Patrick Roy AND NHL team known as the Broad Street Bullies in the 1970s
M4 Hall of Fame defenseman who won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001 AND former name of the Colorado Avalanche franchise prior to its 1995 move from Canada
We got one of these correct. And for those of you who scroll down for answers, I was in the restroom and didn’t get these written down. So you’ll all have to figure these out – or not – just like we did during the game! Sorry, but that bathroom break could NOT wait! 🚽
Round Four
13 Nicknames – What Food Network host is nicknamed the “Mayor of Flavortown?”
Brad wanted to go with one host, but I remembered the correct name from the box of sparkling water I had at home, so we were able to wager 7 on this!
14 Geometry – ASA is an abbreviation of a geometry postulate used to prove that two triangles are congruent. Both “As” stand for “angle,” while the “S” stands for what word?
Clearly we needed math teacher Kim for help here! Miss.
15 Music Genres – Also known as trillwave, what is the weather-related ame for the subgenre of hip-hop pioneered by Lil B, Squadda B, and Friendzone, among others? No idea, we guessed “atmospheric.”
16 Games – Chess traces its roots to chaturanga, a game that dates to at least the seventh century in what country? Good guess from Mike.
Finally a mystery round just for me!

Mystery Round Four – Fit for a Prince
Answer the following questions about Prince on the tenth anniversary of his death.
M1 In 1989, Prince released his 11th studio album, which doubles as the soundtrack to what superhero film?
M2 In 2014, Prince made a guest appearance on what sitcom, in an episode aptly titled “Prince?”
M3 Prince had five #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including two non-title tracks form the album Purple Rain. Name one of those two songs.
M4 What Prince backing band debuted live during the Nude Tour in 1990 and on record on the 1991 album Diamonds and Pearls?
Got all of these.
This time screen shots were working properly on my phone, so…here are the standings:
Joey Trivianis, 28; 212, 29, I’m Tired, Boss, 42; Pods, (also 42), Phrasing, 48, Dangerous Nights, 51.
Final Question Game Two:
Book to TV
The TV series Heated Rivalry is adapted from a book series by Rachel Reid. Heate RIvalry is the series. Give either the title of the first book in the series or the official name of the series.
Nope…
We wagered zero on this and crossed our fingers. Nope, two teams got this, we were in third (I mean “turd”) place again.
We’ve had a good run over the past four weeks, we were actually very happy for the game winners this time 😃!
Dangerous Nights took first, unsure who took second.
This is most likely it for our trivial pursuits this week.
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Vladimir Lenin!
