Maybe it helped that I was in a Halloween sort of mood on a recent trivia night?
I wore one of my Halloween T-shirts, and I doodled this little picture before the game (I do not claim to be an artist):

I was even talking about carving these things! I bought a set of pumpkin carving knives last year, and they were definitely a game changer! Being able to easily carve curved lines was transcendental βΊ π
So what do pumpkins have to do with this trivia game? π€
I’m NOT telling! You’ll have to try figuring that out for yourselves. A gentlemen never asks, and a lady never tells!
Yeah yeah….me a “lady!” Right! π

My husband and I hit up a lively My Trivia Live trivia scene at McShane’s. The Ypsi Starlings Rugby team was particularly lively on this trivia night! They wanted a question with a dirty sounding word repeated at least three times, for one! π
They were also celebrating a big rugby win over the past weekend and had T-shirts for sale. They’re $20 each and come in purple and green if anyone wants to buy some! They had mostly green ones left.
Our trivia team’s colors are purple and green too! Sometimes we wear those colors to tournaments.
Watch out, Fashion Week! Wait til they get a load of us on the runways!
We strangely managed to win a first place $30 prize. We had a pretty rough time with the question set – you know it’s gonna be bad when you have a miss in round one! And the halftime round was a stinker!
Without further ado, here were our abbreviated questions:
Round One
Golf – In what state is the Augusta National Golf Club? Good guess for success.
Cartoons – What character is always trying to steal Krusty Krab’s recipe for Krabby Patties? Miss. Between the two of us, we could only name three Spongebob characters, and the correct one was NOT one of them.
Disasters – What ship sang on April 15, 1912?
Round Two
Opposites – What is the opposite of dystopia?
Backing Bands – What was the name of Buddy Holly’s backing band? If you thought that Spongebob question skewed too “young,” get a load of this question! Yes we were just old enough to know this one!
U.S. States – How many U.S. states begin with the letter “W?”
Round Three
Science! What does a hygrometer measure? Miss.
In the Kitchen – What type of sausage with a French origin is made of pork and used commonly in Cajun cooking?
On the Air – What broadcast network was launched October 9, 1986?
Halftime – The Beatles
From left to right, name the order in which the members of the Beatles appear on the iconic cover of their Abbey Road album.
Shout out to Ypsi Starlings Rugby for acing this one (they were the only team to get the whole thing correct). We only managed to pick the correct position of the most handsome of the Beatles:

Halftime scores:
???, 19; Keeping up with the Joneses, 24; Pods, 25; Pants, 26; Quizzy McQuizface/Spacecats 29; Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 32.
Round Four
Countries – In what country would you find the Black Forest region?
Islands – What is the first island you would encounter when traveling to Key West? The lyrics of that Beach Boys song from 1988 helped me out here! “Aruba…Jamaica…ooh I’m gonna take ya…”
Rivers – What more than 4,000 mile long river runs through eleven countries including Sudan? Yay we survived round four with no misses!
Round Five
Numbers – On what number is a vigesimal decimal system based?
Did someone invite Beavis and Butt-head to this game? We sure did hear a lot of tittering from the Starlings’ corner – and they asked for more than two repeats!

If this was a strategic move to distract all of the players from thinking so they’d get it wrong, well, it worked on us! No clue, miss.
Animals – What type of animal is a burbot? We used our freebie “answer of the week” option to avoid having to answer this for six.
Novelty Items – What is the shortest answer available in a standard Magic Eight Ball toy? Miss.
Round Six
Words – What do the words LASER, TASER, RADAR and SCUBA all have in common?
Streets – On what London street would one find Madame Tussaud’s wax museum and also Sherlock Holmes’ residence?
Fictional Roads – Where does the Yellow Brick Road lead in the Wizard of Oz?
Scores heading into the final:
Easy, 47; Keeping up with the Joneses, 48; Pods, 55; Pants, 60; Spacecats/Quizzy McQuizface, 61 and Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 62.
Category – Phobias
Cucurbitophobia is an excessive, irrational and unreasonable fear of what botanical fruit?
We really put a lot of thought into this one. Not only trying to name the right fruit, but also why someone would fear that fruit. After some hemming and hawing – we landed on the one that sounded as Goldilocks would say was: “Just right.”
Or maybe not Goldilocks…how about this guy instead?

Turns out we were the only team getting this correct! First place!
Spacecats and Quizzy Ypsi Starlings Rugby were tied for second/third so they had a tiebreaker so the finished second/third don’t remember which.
Our next trivia outing will be the My Trivia Live league championship game Saturday, October 11 at Aubree’s in South Lyon.
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Buddy Holly!
