(Updated) Trivia Recap – June 21, 2025 – Virtual Sporcle Events – 2025 Winter/Spring Globe Games Championships

All of the answers are at the end…

Special thanks to Anthony from MN for supplying the final q from Saturday, June 21:

Name four out of the eight actors/actresses to have already won or would win an acting Oscar after appearing in the film?

My guesses on the answers while I have the IMDb page open will be at the end (I have only come up with seven guesses)…

I’m going to do something I’ve never done with a trivia recap in the past – I’m going to make it a two-in-one deal (well, sort of)! That’s right! Are any of you old enough to remember double record albums? Double issues of your favorite magazines? The Doublemint Twins? Or the AI-generated equivalent?

Did you know that one of the sets of “Doublemint Twins” in ads from the 1980s were sisters of actress Katey Sagal?

What I have in this recap are the first two regular rounds from the Saturday, June 21 game, and the first two mystery rounds. We had people to meet and had to cut our game short, so I do not have anything from the second half of the Saturday, June 21 game (if any of my blog readers were at that game and can remember any of those questions – especially the final question, please hit me up in the comments, thanks)!

I also have a sampling of questions from the Sunday, June 22 game, special thanks to a couple of my friends (Kim S. – you are the best!) who shared those with me after their game on Sunday.

We played virtually at the New Bohemian Cafe in Northport, MI (we were out of town and camping in a spotty cell service area at the tip of a peninsula…on a peninsula). Pure Michigan – where you’re literally surrounded by peninsulas no matter where you go! 😂

Even the state motto for Michigan mentions this fact: “Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice,” which roughly translates to “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you.”

Here’s an image of the peninsula where we spent three nights last weekend (Leelanau State Park to be specific):

For you non Michigan natives – or Michigan natives who don’t know the geography of Michigan well, this peninsula is roughly located at the tip of the mitten’s pinky finger and is about 45 minutes (give or take) north of Traverse City.

Big ups to New Bohemian Cafe in Northport! They had a nice selection of pastries, sandwiches, a full coffee bar offering (espresso, lattes, macchiatos, and probably basic no-nonsense black coffee the way I like it too). They offered a large selection of teas and other iced drinks, too.

Their 5G internet for guests was fast and kind enough to let me download the latest version of Zoom on my tablet so that we could show off our sweaty (it was a hot day – we eventually moved inside for the AC) unshowered visages to the trivia host Remy and other players in this game! I don’t recall how many teams were playing in this game…

Anyway, here were the questions from the first half of the Saturday, June 21 game:

Round One

1 Smallest – Name the smallest country in the world to border exactly two other countries. Miss.

2 Animated Accolades – Name the two animated series to receive at least one Primetime Emmy nomination for outstanding comedy series. Ignoring articles, both of these series begin with the same letter. We didn’t quite get the memo on that “same letter” qualifier in between keeping our volume turned down so as not to bother others, and me not being able to read the question well on the phone that he used to submit answers (his settings are calibrated for his eyes, not mine), and me only briefly seeing the question on screen (I couldn’t figure out how to get to the chat on my tablet…I usually play virtual games on a desktop or laptop, this was the first time I’d ever used mobile devices for a virtual game. I’m a typical Gen Xer when it comes to technology – I’ll adapt to it in time, but sometimes it might take a minute – and may involve some cursing! Be nice to us – we’ve spent our entire lives trying to adapt to technological advances! And we probably still owe a penny to Columbia House! 😂

3 Chemicals – What odorless colorless gas commonly used in the U.S. is abbreviated CH818?

4 Olympic Soccer – Besides the United States, name two countries whose women’s Olympic soccer teams have won a gold medal. Picked one correct one, picked a wrong one right next to a correct one on a world map…

Mystery Round One

Decipher the four of the seven anagrams below that will be the name of a film that won the Oscar for best picture. Only four of these will be best picture winners.

Ripe Men Hope, Memory Clue Albany, Stowed Alvin Chews, Strait Alfred Kosher, Limo Ailed Losing Rum, Yeltsin Beans Inside, A Poorly Ripened

I only heard the host say one of these correct answers, I “think” I guessed two other correct ones. Later, after some pondering, I think I guessed the fourth correct one too (if anyone reads this and knows differently after seeing the answers, please say so thanks)!

5 History – Named for an African city that is the most populous in its country, what was the name of the conference between FDR, Winston Churchill, Charles DeGaulle and Henri Giraud that took place at the Anfa Hotel to plan an allied European wawr strategy? I’m gonna guess that all of these guys were drinking at this thing! Miss for us, we never heard of it.

6 Magazines – What magazine, that was launched in 1988, holds the record for being the fastest ever to reach one million paid subscribers? Its final issue was released in 2012. Miss.

7 Dancers – What actress and singer, who caused a sensation in 1927 with her costume consisting only of a short skirt of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace, was the first Black woman to be inducted into the Pantheon in Paris? Up until this point, this was the only one we’d gotten correct! To be fair, we were only two – and were not playing to be competitive – at all. Also wrestling with technology, outside glare on screens, distractions from passing traffic and oppressive humidity that players in live hosted games didn’t have to do!

8 Anatomy – What is the name for the two triangle shaped glands located on top of each kidney in a human? This one is really abbreviated. Miss. Needed more scientific teammates here.

Mystery Round Two – Before and After and After Again

M1 Estuarine system of interconnected marine waterways and basin in Washington State AND grunge band with the 1988 debut album “Ultramega OK” AND Colorado Springs park formerly called Red Rock Corral that was designated a Natural Landmark in 1971

M2 Russian word for “grandmother or “elderly woman” AND English pop band with the 1983 hit “Too Shy” AND small plastic crafting items used to imitate eyeballs

M3 Comedian and actor nicknamed “The King of Comedy” AND duo who led the Corps of Discovery Expedition AND actor whose character in It Happened One Night inspired Bugs Bunny’s carrot eating

M4 American musicl variety television show that aired from 1971-2006 AND 2016 South Korean zombie apocalypse action film AND city and state that is the primary setting for Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

We had to take off pretty quickly and didn’t have time to work on these, but we did work on them later. I’ll put in my guesses for the answers, but I don’t have all of these answers. Here’s where we went afterwards to meet a cousin:

Hop Lot Brewery in Sutton’s Bay, MI (we sat indoors because it was too damn hot and humid).

Answers to first half of the Saturday, June 21 game:

If any of these guesses are incorrect, let me know!

Final Question: 1990s Films

The 1991 film JFK includes six cast members who all won an acting Oscar for other roles in their careers. Name four of those cast members.

Answer (these are only my guesses based on me looking at the cast I do not know 100 percent if these are all correct) : Sissy Spacek, Joe Pesci, Jack Lemmon, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Oldman, walter matthau

Here are the films (at least one for each person) that these actors won actintg oscars for to the best of my
