Trivia Recap – McShane’s Pub – June 5, 2025 – My Trivia Live

Scroll all the way down for the answers.

We brought a trio of playas to a recent trivia bout at McShane’s Pub. No prizes this time, and nope, we didn’t get the final question correct (I hear that one team got it correct). We finished with a “respectable” 53 points overall. My standards are pretty low – if we can break 50 points – that’s…OK! If we break 60…or 70 – that’s fantastic! We can only do the best we can do with the players I have.

I don’t know how the standings are shaking out as I type this, but I think we’re still in the top five non-barhop teams (or something like that). There are 13 weeks to go in this season, we still whether how we’re proceeding here. It’s a “testing the water” kind of thing for our team.

Here were our abbreviate questions:

Round One

Muppets – “Being Green” is the signature song for which Muppet?

Gardening – Pansies, peonies and tulips are plants known for what feature? We were kind of confused by this question, thankfully what we put as our answer was correct.

Math Symbols – The symbol for infinity resembles what number when turned 90 degrees?

Round Two

Trendy Togs – Bell bottomed pants popularized in the 70s were rebranded as what in the 1990s?

Fictional Places – Where is the entrance to Narnia in the novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?

Baseball – What numbered position is the catcher in MLB? Yay Dave for the hit here! Or catch?

Round Three

21st Century TV – What crime/drama series aired from 2017-2022 and featured lead characters named Wendy and Marty Bird?

Technology – Introduced in 1988, what text based system for instant messaging used the abbreviation IRC? GIve the words in the abbrevation. Miss for us.

Even the flip flops by this person are pricey – $500 for shower sandals? Nope! šŸ‘Ž

Trademarks – What shoe designer has a trademarked red lacquered sole? Miss.

Halftime – Presidents

Measured since 1945, name the four of the five presidents with highest approval ratings.

We got three of these correct.

We were in third at the half with 29 points, behind two teams tied for second with 30 and Spacecats in first with 31.

Round Four

Game Math – What is the number of indivisual dominoes in a set of double nine dominoes? Miss. We were only off by two (Mike tried so, so hard on this one).

Superstitions – Whast fish of the family Echeneidae which means “to lay” in Latin was believed by ancient saliors to have the ability to stop ships? Miss.

Artists – What American artist had “time capsules,” or sealed boxes of art that they stored every year from 1974-1987? We actually had the right guess for this one, but after missing two in a row, opted to use our freebie “word of the day” pass for six.

Round Five –

In other Words – What is someone engaged in if they are “treading the boards?” We were the only team getting this one correct, but we we weren’t confident enough to wager full points. Those song lyrics can really help a gal on trivia nights sometimes! šŸŽ¶

Volcanoes – What dormant complex volcano is in the Andes on the Argentina-Chile border and is the highest peak in Chile? Miss.

Theme Songs – The “March of the Swiss Soldiers” was used as the theme song for the Lone Ranger and was written by what Italian composer? We were super grateful for the six points here!

Round Six

Classic Literature – What ship was Captain Nemo in charge of in Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?

Actresses – What actress portrayed Sophia Bursett on “Orange is the New Black?” Way too long since we watched this one, no clue…

Cities – Glasgow is the most populous city in what country?

We were in fourth going into the final round with 53 points, behind Myron with 54; ??? with 56 and Spacecats with 57.

Final Question – Song Lyrics

The song “Venus,” originally recorded by the Dutch band Shocking Blue, and later covered by Bananarama, had what word mispelled in its lyrics, which caused Shocking Blue’s vocalist to mispronounce it in the song?

We actually considered a lot of options here, just happend to pick the wrong one. One team got this, zero wagers prevailed.

Our next trivia outing is “allegedly” Sunday for the Sporcle Events league championship at the YpsiAlehouse. We still have prize money we won in January that maybe we’ll end up using up!
