I’ve decided that at least temporarily, I’ll be backing off from trying to play any more trivia games at the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti.
My “team” right now consists of myself and my husband, our longtime teammates Brad and Dave, and a couple of “loaners” from other teams. I can never get all of these players to come out on the same night. You’ve heard the expression “like herding cats?” 🐈
Understandable! Not everyone has the same schedules or dedicated attitudes. Also people do have personal lives!
We were trying out a new player, but I’m not sure they’re cut out for long term prospects with our team. It’s not a good sign when a player shows up – and leaves – after they ask the first question.
To be fair, games at the Corner Brewery aren’t for everyone. A big, loud, crowded room with shitty acoustics can rattle the brains of even the most seasoned of trivia veterans, but some people just can’t take it. I could sense that this player wasn’t digging the vibe.
I’m not closing the door to him, but I won’t be inviting him to any games at Corner anymore.
We also sadly have a player who recently had a death in his immediate family, which means he’ll be out of the social picture for a while. Our hearts go out to him and his family during this sad time. 😢
So for at least a month, or longer, I won’t be trying to hustle players for games here. I just don’t have enough to be able to field a team. But that’s not the ONLY reason!
Yeah…me and my “wanderlust,” that is! With weather getting warmer here in Michigan, I’m going to start looking at other spots to check out trivia scenes – both new – and tried and true. Maybe we’ll even take a voyage into Ann Arbor 😂
McShane’s Pub will continue to be an occasional trivia spot. I like that it has two trivia nights, which can work with my crazy work schedule! I also like the slightly later start time. This gives me a little more time to unwind if I play after work, or if my husband works later.
Most importantly, I can do more with less at McShane’s trivia nights! I don’t need as many players as I would need for Corner games.
We’ve talked about giving Original Gravity another visit, especially if it’s warm enough to play outdoors.
The week of March 9, we may check out a “sort of” new spot close to us. We played there a few times in 2015 (I think), but they didn’t keep the trivia scene going for too long. Now that they’re back, we’ll check them out again!
No, I’m not saying what spot it is! Isn’t it more fun to guess? 🧐
Trivia plans, as always, are subject to change!
