The “Penultimate” Trivia Game of the Season is Nigh – Here’s How We’ve Done So Far…(November, 2023)

A few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to shift my trivia team’s focus from “fly casual” to “let’s throw our hats in the ring for the venue tournament this time.” I know I don’t have the personnel to do anything but accomplish a second, third or…lower – finish. But at least I will be able to say that we gave it everything we had!

Our days of being able to dominate trivia spots week after week are behind us. We were able to do that for several seasons in the My Trivia Live league at three local spots, but we’re no longer playing MTL games. Also, none of those three spots we played regularly are doing trivia anymore – Wurst Bar, Tower Inn (now a Thai joint) and Powell’s Pub (minor detail, right). We don’t have the mojo to be able to dominate any but the dumbest of trivia spots in the Sporcle Live league! We’re OK with that – we actually prefer the Sporcle format, which switched to an all digital means of answering questions as opposed to paper slips that needed to be handed in to the host. This is just a fancy way of saying we answer questions on our phones now! My husband has taken over that task and seems to enjoy it (even if I occasionally have to try prying the phone out of his hands so I can see scores, see what he’s put for the answers, etc.). He’s like a dog with a bone! And I know I walked into a dirty joke with that turn of phrase 🙂

We’ve played 14 total games in four different trivia spots since the season began in August – YpsiAlehouse, Sticks, Corner Brewery (officially known as Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery) and The Owl. Our “main” spot is the YpsiAlehouse (for now). We’ve had just one first place finish, five second place finishes, three third place finishes, two fourth place finishes, one fifth place finish, and one 16th place finish (this was at a bar that usually has 20 some-odd teams, most with five players or more). We managed to win prize money in nine of those games, totaling $105 so far. We have a few YpsiAlehouse gift cards with 18 cents on them, we do plan to use them up (waste not, want not)!

As for final questions, we have only managed to get both questions correct on three different nights.

Without further ado:
