Trivia Recap – Game #770 – May 16, 2023 – Virtual Sporcle “Pub Quiz” Format

We wanted to get a “taste” of what we suspected might be slightly tougher trivia questions this week by buying in to a virtual game. Good thing we weren’t vying for bar supremacy, a tournament spot or anything like that! Have you deciphered my not so clever spin?

Yeah our game wasn’t so hot! We were in last place out of six teams going into the final, and yeah, we didn’t get the final right! We did something during a visual mystery round that has helped us in the past when we’re torn between two answers – and that is put down the same answer more than once! I think we were desperate enough to put down the same answer four times before!

One of my most loyal blog followers from Ohio mentioned mystery rounds in a recent comment. They can be game killers – especially now that players have more of them in their games than they did in the previous Sporcle Live format. Anyone else care to discuss this?

Time for some questions? 🙂

1 Memes – What animal is seen sitting at a dinner table in an internet meme that also features Taylor Armstrong from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills pointing and crying? That meme was tired from the very beginning. Retire the damn thing!

2 Retail – Kirkland Signature is the in-house private label of what retailer? My smart ass husband joked, “I’ll take things only white people know, Alex!” Now that just silly! There are plenty of Asians shopping at my friendly local Costco, too!

3 TV Actors – What Disney Channel series that aired from 2005–2008 features twin siblings Cole and Dylan Sprouse as the title characters? After they revealed the answer which we didn’t know, we remembered the ads for the show. While we’re on the subject of Disney shows, did any of you know that iCarly is being rebooted? My husband seemed interested in that bit of news! He used to like watching the old iCarly series, I suspect because he had a *harmless* crush on Miranda Cosgrove (trust me he ain’t no perv and is NOT into underage girls)! He just really liked her character in School of Rock (who didn’t)?

This was the high point of our game! Time for a downward spiral! Put on your crash helmets!

4 Board Games – How many total spaces on a standard U.S. Monopoly board require a player to draw either a Chance card or a Community Chest card? Nope.

Mystery One – Visual

We put down the same woman for 2 and 4, she was right for one of them!

Round Two –

5 Books – Families with the surnames Earnshaw and Linton, as well as a character known by a single name, are at the center of what 1847 novel? We were close, but no cigar…Has someone told me that they know a player who has a Jedi mind trick for remembering which Bronte sister is which? I need to do that too, the first thing I need to do is give a f—! That’s the hardest part!

6 MVPS – The AP NFL Most Valuable Player Award has been won unanimously twice—in 2010 and in 2019. Name one of the two players who won those awards.NERD POINT: Name both. We actually named one correct person! Maybe all hope isn’t lost for this game, after all (yes…yes it is)!

7 Organisms – Witch’s hair, bullseye, goldspeck, and stippleback are among the varieties of what algae-fungi composite organism? We weren’t “likin'” this question too much, lol….

8 Sorry no question 8…technical difficulties!

Mystery Round Two – Song Lyrics

Based on the year of release and the given lyrics, name the song that shares its title with a film. (Note: The given year is when the song was released, not the film.)

M1. “I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day; When it’s cold outside; I’ve got the month of May” (1964)

M2. “Big wheels keep on turnin’; Carry me home to see my kin; Singin’ songs about the south-land” (1974)

M3. “The lights are on, but you’re not home; Your mind is not your own; Your heart sweats, your body shakes; Another kiss is what it takes” (1986)

M4. “The night is full of holes; ’Cause bullets rip the sky of ink with gold; They twinkle as the boys play rock and roll” (2004)

We missed 2 and 4.

Last place 35 points going into the final.

Musicals –

What 2009 Broadway musical that ran for more than 2,300 performances includes songs titled “High Enough” and “The Search Is Over.” The musical is itself named after another song that was not part of the original performance.

Like thar Jordan Peele horror movie title states so eloquently…

Nope!

Live game may be possible tonight! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Nikki Haley!
