Trivia Recap – Game # 714 – August 30, 2022 – Virtual Sporcle “Pub Quiz” Format
Pretend that I’m Alfred Pennyworth from the Batman comics and asking a discouraged Bruce:
“Why do we fall down?”
The answer, of course, is so that we can pick ourselves up again! I mean, come on – this is “Batman 101 stuff!”
Didn’t I talk about Batman in a recent trivia recap? Maybe!
The same can be said for a shitty trivia game. When your game goes to the toilet, just flush it down! And then ready yourself for your next game! As it turned out, we didn’t know as much about foreign embassies as we thought – nor did we know anything about lip-syncing disgraced music duos, we completely flubbed out on the FB clue question (we’re waiting for Alfred to tell us to pick ourselves up after falling flat on our faces on that one), and were a total loss on a video games question.
Good news is we did get some questions correct! Read on to see the other questions we were either hit – or miss – on answering correctly:
Round One – 1 Sports – The French phrase en garde is spoken at the beginning of matches in what Olympic sport? My trivia pardner Mike knew this, which was good, because I would have had no clue…
2 Drinks – What brand of sports drink made by Coca-Cola is the primary competitor of Gatorade? I was briefly hooked on the powdered form of this stuff after a bout of food poisoning in the early 2000s (particularly the blue flavor).
3 Candidates – What first name is shared by the Democratic Party candidates for both president and vice president in the 2004 presidential election?
4. Schools – Name two of the three U.S. states that have been home to the historically women’s colleges known as the “Seven Sisters.” NERD POINT: Name all three.
We got two of these, missed the bonus.
Mystery One –
Answer whether the given part of the human body is in the eye, heart, or brain.
M1. Broca’s Area
M2. Mitral Valve
M3. Sclera
M4. Pons
Got all of these correct.
Round Two – 5 – Audio clue, answer wound up being Milli Vanilli.
6 Actresses – What actress, who is credited in five different films with titles beginning with “American,” released her memoir, The Great Peace, in 2021? We went with another actress who has a similar name, miss (shame on us for missing a freebie FB clue question)!
7 Video Games – Sweet Tooth, Crimson Fury, and Mr. Grimm are three of the vehicles featured in what 1995 video game that is the first in a series? Miss.
8 Transportation – Both Washington, D.C., and Moscow have rapid transit networks known by what five-letter term?
Mystery Two – Visual
Missed #1.
We were in last place with 40 points going into the final.
Final Category – World Cities
Name one of the two European capital cities that are home to more foreign embassies than Washington, D.C.
You know that when a host says a final question was a tough one that it probably means YOU missed it too! We had no clue that one of the correct cities would even have room for as many embassies as it does. We also have no clue as to why the country in which this city is located even exists in the first place (pick a side, people)! Oh well, 25 points are better than none!
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Milli Vanilli!
