We finished in second place in a recent virtual trivia game, missing only a question about a TV series we never watched featuring an actress we only remembered because she played a porn star in that one movie with Emile Hirsch. I think it was called The Girl Next Door. Yes, the Internets tell me I’m right! However, don’t confuse this movie with the horror film of the same name released a few years later. Unless you’re into horror, of course!
Here were our game questions:
1 Mythology – In Greek mythology, what human woman opened an artifact and released all of the evils of the world, with hope being the only thing left inside?
2 TV Characters – What Fox TV series that originally aired from 2001-2010, and was revived for one season in 2014, features Elisha Cuthbert playing the daughter of the main character?
NERD POINT: What is her character’s first name?
Nope and nope…
3 Anatomy – In humans, the brainstem is made up of the midbrain, pons, and what third part that deals with involuntary functions such as sneezing and breathing?
4 Cocktails – According to the International Bartenders Association, what mixed drink consists of gin, tequila, vodka, white rum, triple sec, simple syrup, lemon juice, and cola? I used to order these made with club soda instead of cola and would jokingly call them “Blonde Island Iced Teas.” Seriously – the simple syrup makes these sweet enough!
Mystery Round One
June 8 is National Best Friends Day. To celebrate, answer the following questions about celebrity best friends.
M1. What actresses and best friends—one born in Mexico and the other born in Spain—starred together in the 2006 film Bandidas?
M2. Best friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for writing what 1997 film?
M3. Along with Lucy Liu, what longtime best friends played title characters in the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels?
M4. What unlikely best friend of Martha Stewart co-stars on the VH1 series partially titled Potluck Dinner Party?
Got all of these correct. And had a mind blowing moment when we came up with the answer for #2 – “Wasn’t that the subtitle of Stranger Things season 1?”
5 Mountains – The Presidential Range, including Mt. Washington, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Jefferson, is part of the White Mountains in which Eastern U.S. state?
6 Instruments – A glockenspiel is most similar to which of the following instruments?
7 Documentaries – For a 2004 documentary, Morgan Spurlock only had food and drinks from what restaurant for 30 days?
8 Golf – Name one of the two golfers who have won at least eight men’s major championships AND had the last of those wins come in the 1980s. This made me think of a scene from “The Simpsons” (seriously what doesn’t make me think of some quote from The Simpsons):
Mystery Round Two
For this mystery round, there are four answers, and they must be placed in the correct order. You will receive two points for each answer that is in the correct spot 1-4.
Place the following four musicians in order according to when they were born, beginning with the oldest.
We got all of these correct, though we nearly flip flopped a couple. We were in second with 51 points going into the final (tied with three other teams).
Final Category – Presidential History
Of the U.S. presidents who have been assassinated, which one was shot while attending a World’s Fair?
To quote A Million Ways to Die in the West? “People die at the fair.” Or the Pan-American Exposition, to be specific! This assassination was completely avoidable on so many levels – the people charged with protecting this president must have been SO frustrated! And dying of a gunshot wound in the abodomen – in the days before we had the things to fight sepsis we have now – not a good way to die.
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz!
