I recently watched part one of the fourth season of the Netflix series “Stranger Things.” And there have been some moments that have sent me to the Internets to learn more (mental note, also see if the 53rd minute in Fast Times at Ridgemont High is when the “pool scene” occurs).
There are several nods to the 1982 film in the series “Stranger Things.” There is even a scene that parodies this scene in the series, which kind of uses a gender swap where the women are the ones ogling a male in a red swimsuit (something which I can totally get behind doing, especially if the guy in the red swimsuit has longish hair). Hey – we all have a “type,” don’t we?

So what’s been making me run to the Internet to learn more while watching “Stranger Things?” Lots of things, actually! But let’s focus on celebrity kids, shall we? When I saw the name “Grace Van Dien” in the credits, I immediately thought of this guy in the movie Starship Troopers and had to find out if they were related:

And here is Casper Van Dien’s daughter Grace in “Stranger Things:”

While watching and paying attention to the credits, I also saw the name Maya Hawke, which was a name I had recognized from the cast of Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. She is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, and you can definitely see the resemblance to both her mother – and father! But her voice and mannerisms are definitely ALL Uma, IMHO. Here is her mother from the Kill Bill movie series:
Here is her daughter Maya Hawke:
I was really, really hoping that there would be a third actor from “Stranger Things” with a celebrity parent (maybe there is still one I’ve overlooked). But it turns out Gaten Matarazzo – who plays Dustin – is NOT any relation to actress Heather Matarazzo, whom was in the 1995 dramatic coming of age film Welcome to the Dollhouse. But what’s even stranger is that he IS the son of a woman named Heather Matarazzo – just not THAT Heather Matarazzo! Is that stranger than the events of this popular Netflix series? I almost think so! This means that there are at least two Heather Matarazzos out there (possibly more)! I’ll let Bill and Ted do some talking on that point:
Here is the Heather that he is NOT related to:
