Trivia Recap – Game #628 – January 17, 2022 – Virtual Stump! Game

Was there ever more beloved of a dead celebrity than Betty White? Did Princess Diana hold a candle to White’s popularity? What about Elvis, were more people All Shook Up over his death than Betty White’s? How many of us doves cried over Prince’s death?

Asking for a friend.

Speaking of “asking,” yes, we had some questions about (you guessed it) Betty White! I guess she died recently or something, right (sorry I’ve been in a cave for the past two months). We had a mystery round about Betty White movies, to be exact. Could all Betty White themed trivia nights be that far off? She lived a long enough life for there to be lots, and lots of things to ask about her! As far as Golden Girls go, yes, I “guess” it was cool that she was the “ditzy” one, but my favorite Golden Girl was the small grumpy one. Sophia? Estelle Getty? The Stop, or My Mom Will Shoot lady?

Yeah, I liked her the best. Sorry Betty White and the other Golden Girls you outlived! Wait, Rue McLanahan isn’t still alive is she? Ah, too lazy to Google that.

How about the rest of those questions including the 13 that were not about Betty White?

Round One

1) Holidays – In what decade was Martin Luther King Jr. Day signed into law as a federal holiday in the U.S.?

NERD POINT: Which East Coast state was the first to recognize a state holiday in honor of MLK?

Missed the bonus.

2) Games – What card-based game created by Richard Garfield is contested between two or more players who do battle as characters known as Planeswalkers? Nerdy husband all over this. And of course he griped about the game because it was competition for another game he enjoyed playing.

3) 2010s Albums – What rapper earned three Grammy nominations for Album of the Year in the 2010s, for Good Kid, M.A.A.D City; To Pimp a Butterfly; and DAMN.? No idea, miss.

4) Hotels – The Westin Hotels & Resorts chain is owned by what hospitality company headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland? Lucky guess.

Mystery One – Visual

Round Two

1) TV Kids – What are the first names of the parents of Gloria, played by Sally Struthers on a TV series that aired from 1971-1979 and spawned several spin-offs? Yay we’re old!

2) Quarterbacks – What quarterback was selected first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars? Uh, nope…don’t follow drafts of the sports variety – beer is far more interesting!

3) Maff – 3 + 5 = 5 + 3 and 4 x 6 = 6 x 4 are examples of what mathematical law/property? My trivia pardner was able to figure this out, thank the gods.

4) Oceans – Cameroon is a country of more than 25 million people that has a coast on which ocean? Did you know this country was named for shrimp? I did not, neither did a bunch of people in a recent My Trivia Live trivia tournament!

Mystery Two – Betty White Movies

Identify the movies featuring Betty White based on the descriptions.

M1) What 2009 film features Betty playing Annie, the grandmother of Andrew, who is engaged to Margaret twice, the second time for real?

M2) What 2012 film features Betty voicing Norma, the grandmother of Ted, who is searching for a “real tree”?

M3) What 2010 film features Betty playing Bunny, the grandmother of Will and Marni, who is revealed to have been a high school rival of Helen, played in a cameo appearance by Cloris Leachman?

M4) What 1999 film features Betty playing Delores, an elderly widow who feeds a giant crocodile (and, later, its babies)?

Got all of these. We were in fourth going into the final with ??? points.

Final Category – World Health

Six times since 2009, the World Health Organization has issued a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, including one for swine flu, two for Ebola, and one for COVID-19.

Name one of the two other afflictions that have led to a declaration, one in 2014 and the other in 2016.

Got it, but we did not move up in the standings.

As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Jackie Robinson (sorry we didn’t know who you are)!
