I’m hearing that Schitt $ Creek is winning big at tonight’s Emmy Awards ceremony! How strange is this for a TV series that I enjoy – and have watched in its entirety?
The shows that win a crap ton of Emmy Awards are not ones I usually enjoy or even watch. I’ve never watched a single episode of “Modern Family,” “Everybody Loves Raymond” and that “Mrs. Maisel” series wasn’t marvelous enough for me to tune in to.
The stars of the series – Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara -were what originally attracted me to the show. I’ve greatly enjoyed watching both of them on screen over the years, both separately and when they perform together (especially when they are together).
The first time I saw them together on screen was in Best in Show, an on-point dog show “mockumentary” directed by Christopher Guest (you might know him best as Nigel Tufnel in This is Spinal Tap, or as Jamie Lee Curtis’ husband since 1984). I don’t know if they’re still together -and did you know Guest actually holds a royal title? Sorry, I digress…
Anyway, I couldn’t be happier about this series winning big tonight! I recently described it as a “reverse Beverly Hillbillies with a modern LBGQT twist.” In Schitt $ Creek, the rich folks become newly poor and have to adjust to more “provincial” people and settings.
I’m sure O’Hara’s character Moira Rose would be in seventh heaven if she were at the ceremony (and dressed to kill)!
