Three of us – plus a “plus one” – will be hitting up the trivia scene at Sticks in Ypsilanti, MI tonight. Even by only playing three games, we’re in second place in the standings – trailing the first place team by 59 points! Well then…we might not have been trying to qualify in the Sporcle Live league this season, but that doesn’t mean that if WE do wind up having the highest 12 scores at the end of all things – what the Hell?
This is ONLY if we finish first. If we don’t manage to win a first day pick of a semifinal spot, we’re probably not going to bother. And judging by how poorly we did last time we tried playing “local,” I ain’t necessarily going to be trying to find a “local” semis spot next season! If this means driving into metro Detroit to possibly find a less competitive scene, so be it! One of our players lives in Plymouth now, so this might actually be ideal.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, shall we? Or as “The Wolf” said in Pulp Fiction:
Yes, this is a very profane movie quote…but it’s one of my absolute favorites! Harvey Keitel and Quentin Tarantino in Pulp Fiction.
Sure, we won’t have enough players to field a 5 person semifinal team, and certainly won’t have enough for the state championship, either. That, and who KNOWS where the state championship will be? The Lansing location wasn’t super popular with the metro Detroit area teams. Didn’t Bob Marley say “You can please some people sometimes – but you can’t please all the people all the time?”
No wait…that word was “fool” instead of “please!” Really though…doesn’t everything sound better coming out of the late Bob Marley? What a voice…Did any of you know that he was a pretty skilled footballer? I think I read somewhere that he wanted to play for Celtic. Or maybe that was Rod Stewart? That would make sense, since he was Scottish… Yes – I just checked it was Rod Stewart who was a fan of Celtic.
I’m actually pretty pleased with how my team has been doing at trivia games we’ve played in this calendar year so far – in both the My Trivia Live and Sporcle Live leagues! If this means we’re overdue for a sucky game, so be it. I know how to roll with the good times – and bad times – with the best of ’em! I’m certainly no stranger to being in Slumpsville – and know the heartbreak of losing our venue lead at a bar after having played 18 consecutive weeks. But there’s no crying in trivia, is there?
I’m noticing that some of the trivia competition is getting pretty heated at some local Sporcle Live trivia spots! Only 40 points are dividing the top three teams at The Owl, and the Tuesday/Wednesday night scenes at Haymaker in downtown Ann Arbor look pretty tight, too. Even our game Tuesday at McShane’s was pretty competitive! Four teams with more than 70 points heading into the final is pretty impressive…
We’re going to continue doing what we’ve been doing with our Sporcle games so far in 2020 – and focus on winning some beer money! A new host – Angie B. – is supposed to take the mic tonight. Go Pods!
