Well, well, well…it took them 13 whole weeks to do it – but it looks as though Peas Above Stick is making designs on our lead spot (trailing us by fewer than 10 points). Well played…well played! This small group of players (who also play with another longtime league team at the Corner Brewery Wednesdays) are obviously evenly matched with us. They just happened to have the good luck of knowing the NBA final question answer in game two – which we did not – and were forced to wager low because of our lack of confidence.

Part of me says, “If you want that first-day RSVP tournament spot, then by all means…take it! Then there’s that “other” part of me that says: “If you want that spot, be prepared to fight us for it!”

I think we all know which side of me will prevail in this case! I know all too well what trivia competition is like – though my team is usually on the “other” side and nipping at the heels of much better teams. This season, we were apparently “the team to beat.”

We certainly didn’t use the same “strategy” this other team used (they always seem to bet it all on every final question). We played it more conservatively – wagering zero – or low – on categories we weren’t too confident about. Sometimes it would pay off, and sometimes…it wouldn’t. It’s always a gamble. In the ensuing weeks, we’ll see which strategy – conservatism – or “go big or go home” – works best.

The season ain’t over! We have a few weeks to try to claim this bar as a “notch” on our trivial bedpost! We’re not going to do like the cephalopods in the oceans do and hide in our lairs – let the hunted – become the hunters!
