In the 2018 movie Aquaman, there was a scene where submerged ships – and garbage – were dredged from the ocean and brought to land. If any of the shots featured Michigan shipwrecks, then the Sleeping Bear Dunes area of Northern MI would see quite a lot of ships cluttering their coasts! Especially in the area known locally as the “Manitou Passage.” You can learn more about this here.

Don’t want to put on scuba gear to look at a shipwreck? If you visit South Manitou Island (part of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore) – You won’t have to! You can see a good portion of the Francisco Morazan shipwreck above water. It sunk in 1960 (all the crew were rescued). My husband and I did a backpacking trip here in 2006 and got to see this shipwreck in person.
