Dutch actor Rutger Hauer, arguably best known for playing Roy in Blade Runner (1982) died today. It’s worth noting he died in 2019, which is the year his Blade Runner character gave his famous “Tannhauser Gate” death speech – and ultimately died. Well played, Rutger Hauer! You win the Internet today! But we all lose – because he was such a versatile actor – who showed us the creepy in The Hitcher and in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, his iciness as a corporate shill in Batman Begins, his I’m Mad as Hell And I’m Not Going To Take It Anymore side in the movie Hobo With a Shotgun. I absolutely LOVE movie titles like these! Just go ahead and give away the plot of the movie in the title (I love spoilers)! Let’s take a look at Hauer in some of these roles, shall we?
Blade Runner, 1982

Hauer playing a “replicant” attempting to fight “the man.”
The Hitcher, 1986

I don’t care if he has a cigarette hanging out of his mouth…this is just HOT! It’s all in the eyes – and the way he’s holding that gun! The Hitcher, 1986.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Movie, 1992)

Hauer meeting his maker as Lothos in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Batman Begins, 2005
