Despite Kim’s best efforts to try to round up an actual “team” for the ’80s music night at Haymaker Ann Arbor Thursday, I think it might just be the two of us. I’m really not that worried – we both possess a good “cross section” of music knowledge from that decade, with her being stronger in the R&B/hip hop genre, and me being fairly strong in pop and rock (and also new wave/alternative/Eurotrash). We could very well be a successful “Hall & Oates” duo on this trivia night – or lose our Grammy award, like poor Milli Vanilli. Really – all I care is that we have fun!
I miss the name that tune nights we used to frequent before they shut ’em down because of not enough interest. The trivia host, Chris, put the shows together himself and would come up with some DEEP musical cuts! She would typically be all over late ’90s and 2000s music, and she would be absolutely WOWED with the deep cuts I’d produce from my grey matter involving disco tunes. What? Your mom didn’t play disco records? You were SO deprived (LOL)!
I don’t think I’ll be putting together an ’80s ensemble for this. But if weather allows, I just might wear my “vintage” denim jacket from the ’80s!
