As I may have already mentioned in passing, the trivia I joined Saturday for a My Trivia Live semifinal game was a pretty “chill” bunch. This was quite a departure from the overall vibe on my trivia team, where we can get pretty “competitive” at times! There was that one time I walked home from a game after we blew 10 points on a “movie quotes” question, there have been times when Mike has said “I’m outta here” and takes a breather outside during games…the list goes on! I know that in the pursuit of trivia dominance, sometimes things can get…intense! Though we really have been working hard to bring the “fun” back into our trivia nights!
The “Squirrels” team I joined Saturday was a different story! I commented that there was some good competition in the room. Greg, whom was sitting next to me, said:
We’re really not that competitive.
My response? Classic me…
Today you’re going to win a finals spot, so we’re going to be a little competitive!
I was just trying to give him a pep talk, I honestly didn’t think it would come to pass!
After the game, they said they would not have been able to advance had I not been there. I said?
Oh yes you would have!
I knew they were probably… right! What a role reversal! Usually I lean on my team quite a bit on trivia nights (especially the MTL nights). Mike and Brad could probably rock the MTL games quite well without me, provided they don’t encounter any questions about movies, music, presidents, and other topics I know about but they don’t. In this game Saturday, the Squirrels team were the ones leaning on ME! I’m not quite sure what to make of that – it was a strange feeling!
At the finals Saturday, April 27? I’m definitely not expecting too much! The ante will be upped, the competition will be fierce and the stakes will be high. But I will be there by their sides – just celebrating the fact that they made it that far – for the first time ever! If I’m lucky? I just might know some of the answers!
