The final question in game one Wednesday in Sporcle Live games was:
What singer attended Erasmus Hall High School with Barbra Streisand, where they performed together in choir about 20 years before they reached #1 together on the Billboard Hot 100?
I got really excited – I knew this answer immediately, and not so much because of the “duet” clue, but because of something I read randomly in a Wikipedia article about the singer in question some time ago… Both of my folks were big fans of this “other” singer, and I developed a fondness for some of his songs, too. This singer’s #1 hits include Cracklin’ Rosie (1970), Song, Sung Blue (1972) and You Don’t Bring Me Flowers (1978 duet with Barbra Streisand).
Here’s the quote from the wiki article that cemented itself into my brain:
“We were two poor kids in Brooklyn. We hung out in the front of Erasmus High and smoked cigarettes.”
Last night, I tried looking for this in Google images and had no luck. Then I realized…that picture likely doesn’t even exist…IT WAS JUST IN MY HEAD! I was thinking of these two future music superstars – just hanging out in front of their high school sharing a smoke break.
Weird, huh?
