A friend’s trivia team is very, very excited right now – because it will be the first time in several years that they’ve come close to qualifying for playing in the My Trivia Live semifinals! They noticed recently that they’d managed to land in the top 20 “barhop”  teams. If they finish in 11-20th place, they can play in an “exclusive” semifinal game that gives half of the qualifying teams a chance to advance to the finals (better odds than other MTL semifinals).

And we’ve agreed to help them out in this endeavor during this final week! This is a very exciting opportunity for their team, and a chance for our team to “give back!” We’ve had so many players/teams help us out in countless ways over the past several years – by joining us on regular trivia nights, helping us out in tournaments, and even signing in under our league number and playing “as” us to help keep us in the barhop standings. We’ve had very few opportunities to give back in kind, though we’ve always attempted to “compensate” quite a few of the folks who’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty (giving them prize winnings from other trivia games, buying them drinks, trinkets, small bottles of booze, etc.).  Some of you readers might even see yourselves being described here and remember helping us out (and for that I thank you…again)!

In 2018, we used another team’s league number to help them out when one of their players was too sick to go to the game. We’ve also sat in on a couple of semifinal games to help other teams – Betty Ford Rejects – and the Corn Fritters (we helped the former team advance to finals in 2016, and helped the Corn Fritters advance way back in 2012).

I honestly hope this team gets to have a shot at a semifinal game this time – even if it ends in failure. With any luck, I’ll be one of the players helping them win – or lose!
